When the city of Buena Park adopted a law this year that required landlords to evict tenants arrested on charges of narcotics and gang-related offenses in their buildings, civil libertarians cried foul. But as legal proceedings began this month against the first group of renters facing eviction, many people--police and city officials and other neighborhood residents--say the ordinance is working just as it was intended to.

The family of a Westminster man who was arrested after a medical emergency call and later died at the hospital has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit seeking $10 million in damages, the family's attorneys said Tuesday. According to the lawsuit, family members called for paramedics Oct. 10 to report that Tuan Tang, 19, appeared seriously ill, possibly because of a drug overdose. But police officers and paramedics failed to properly evaluate his medical condition, the suit contends.

In one of Buena Park's biggest marijuana busts in half a decade, police said they seized $635,000 worth of the drug, as well as several weapons and $60,000 in cash. Seven people were questioned Tuesday and Wednesday in connection with the bust, officials said, but no names were released while the investigation continued. "We are looking into the possibility that this is part of a bigger operation," said Sgt. Ken Coovert, public information officer for the Buena Park Police Department.

A Newport Beach teen, who gained notoriety earlier this year after successfully challenging his expulsion from high school over allegations of possession of drug paraphernalia, was charged Tuesday with possession of the drug and alcohol. Ryan Huntsman, 19, could face more than $500 in fines and must appear in court Jan. 29.

Eight people were in federal custody Thursday after the FBI and local law enforcement officials broke up what they described as a violent street gang responsible for manufacturing $1 million worth of methamphetamine a month. Santa Ana police served warrants on at least eight Orange County homes Wednesday night, seizing an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin in addition to guns. State narcotics agencies also took part in the investigation, officials said.

Sheriff's officials have recovered stolen property and seized a large amount of cash and drugs from a San Clemente home. The discovery stems from the investigation into several vehicle and residential burglaries that resulted in the arrest last month of James Elwyn Fraser, 36, of San Clemente.

Eight people were arrested Friday after raids on suspected methamphetamine labs in Santa Ana, Anaheim and Fullerton, police said. Several pounds of the illegal drug were seized in the raids, which began midafternoon and ended about 6 p.m., Fullerton Police Lt. Mike Stedman said. Two search warrants were served in Anaheim, one in Santa Ana and one in Fullerton, all in residential areas, police said. Police found evidence of illegal drug labs in Anaheim and Santa Ana, Stedman said.

Police are seeking the public's help in finding a man suspected of running a large indoor marijuana lab at several sites countywide, according to Orange police. Brady Neal Willis, 43, is wanted on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, conspiracy and theft of electrical services, Orange Police Det. Rob Miller said. The suspect is described as white, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and eyes.
