More than 13,000 vials of crack have been seized in the largest haul ever in New England of the cocaine derivative, authorities said Friday. About 8,000 vials were seized and six people were arrested Thursday at several sites. More than 5,000 other vials of crack were purchased by undercover agents during the probe.

A 43-year-old Newport Beach woman faces federal drug charges after she was arrested at a Boston airport on suspicion of transporting about $2.5 million worth of methamphetamine. In what federal officials call the largest single methamphetamine bust in New England, Constance L. Clayton was arrested Tuesday in a baggage claim area at Logan International Airport after about 10 kilograms of methamphetamine were found in her luggage, authorities said. Clayton, who flew to Boston via Ontario, Calif.

Federal officials on Monday exhibited bales of cocaine stacked like cordwood and announced a bust that netted 4,822 pounds of cocaine, which they said would have been worth $500 million on the street. Eleven people in Massachusetts and Florida were charged, and 10 arrested, in the third major cocaine bust in the Boston area since June. U.S. Atty. Wayne Budd said the cocaine, which federal undercover agents had seized on Aug. 7, was in "pure, uncut form."
