The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Red Cross has issued an appeal for financial aid to victims of a March 6 earthquake in Ecuador. While initial estimates put the death toll at 300, Red Cross officials now believe that as many as 2,000 may have died. Particularly hard hit are the provinces of Napo, Carchi, Imbabura and Pichincha, where many bridges were destroyed.
