Ed Graham, varsity basketball coach at Troy High School, has resigned his position effective April 7 to become an assistant basketball coach at Don Lugo High in Chino Hills. Graham, 38, compiled a 34-33 record at Troy in three seasons, leading the Warriors to two Southern Section playoff berths. He also was an assistant track coach and taught English. Before coming to Troy, Graham was basketball coach at Orange High School.

Don Paxton, basketball coach at Orange High School the past two seasons, has resigned for personal reasons. Paxton compiled an 11-36 record in two seasons after replacing Ed Graham in 1986. He will remain at Orange as a history teacher.

Orange High School's 6-foot 6-inch senior center Eric Hendry, who averaged 16 points per game to lead the Panthers to the Century League basketball championship, was named the league's Most Valuable Player, and Orange Coach Ed Graham was named its Coach of the Year.

Ed Graham, the head basketball coach at Orange High School the past four years, has been named basketball coach at Troy High School. Graham said he was informed on Monday night by school officials of the appointment. "It was something I had waited for a long time," he said. "I'm really excited about getting this." He replaces Mike Williams, who resigned after leading Troy to the Freeway League championship with a 10-0 record.

Bill Morris, one of the most successful basketball coaches in Orange County while at Troy High School from 1969 to 1983, is returning as the school's varsity basketball coach. Morris, 47, has been named to succeed Ed Graham, who resigned last month to accept a coaching position at Don Lugo High in Chino. "My two sons have graduated from (Esperanza) high school, so I thought the time was right to come back into coaching," Morris said. "I missed the game, and when they approached me at the school to come back, I thought it would be a good opportunity to help the kids at Troy High."

Troy High School Coach Ed Graham knew his boys' basketball team could play with Sunny Hills, but he never thought it would win. But Troy surprised its coach by upsetting Sunny Hills, 54-48, Wednesday night in a Freeway League game at Troy. The victory moved the Warriors (13-4, 5-0) into first place in the league standings and snapped an 11-game Sunny Hills winning streak. Sunny Hills (14-2, 4-2), ranked second in the Southern Section 3-A, drops into second place in the Freeway League.

The fifth Laguna Beach 10K Run will be held on April 27 starting at 8 a.m. This year's race will be run on a TAC-certified course which starts in downtown Laguna Beach and goes through the village area of the city, to Laguna Canyon Road and back to Ocean Avenue. Edwin Moses will be on hand for the start of the race. The pre-registration fee is $7, which includes a shirt. Day of the race registration will cost $12. For more information call 494-6811.

Monte Masters of Oklahoma will meet Nick DeLong of Long Beach in a 10-round heavyweight fight in one of the bouts on the Aug. 18 boxing card at the Irvine Marriott. Masters, who lives in Saugus, has a 29-2 record with 22 knockouts, whereas DeLong, a former lineman at San Jose State, is 8-2. Keith Brigman, an adaptive physical education teacher at Mitchell School in Santa Ana, received the John West Memorial Award at the closing ceremonies of the California Special Olympics at UCLA June 30.

Several members of the 1984 U.S. Olympic men's team handball squad will participate in an exhibition match against Japan at 7 p.m. Sunday at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym. Olympic team handball competition was staged at Titan Gym, and the men's team defeated Japan, 24-16, for its only victory. The USA Select Team competing on Sunday night is composed of former Olympians and current national team members.
