Timothy Edward Rabbitt, the 23-month-old son of singer-songwriter Eddie Rabbitt, died of complications after liver transplant surgery, a spokeswoman for the entertainer said Wednesday.

Eddie Rabbitt, a country-pop singer who topped the charts with bouncy hits such as "I Love a Rainy Night," has died. He was 56. Rabbitt's publicist said Friday that the entertainer died Thursday. Rabbitt had lung cancer and part of his left lung was removed a year ago. Rabbitt, a singer-songwriter-guitarist with a tenor voice, had 26 No. 1 country singles.

For Reba's Band: Kenny Rogers will be among the performers at an April 22 concert to raise funds for the families of eight members of country star Reba McEntire's entourage, killed in a plane crash March 16 near San Diego. Also singing will be the Oak Ridge Boys, Eddie Rabbitt, Ricky Van Shelton, Patty Loveless, Exile, Gary Morris and T. Graham Brown. McEntire, a four-time winner of the Country Music Assn.'

But it will be worth the effort to rise early this weekend for the Hot Air Balloon and Music Festival in Chino. Dozens of hot air balloons will lift off at about 7:30 a.m. (gates open at 6 a.m. for breakfast) for the Hare and the Hound competition, in which professional balloonists (the hounds) accumulate points by hitting the target (designated by the hare).

Within a week after the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce put on a poorly attended country and rock music festival, the administrator of the business promotion organization unexpectedly quit, the chamber's president announced this week. Large crowds, great music but massive traffic problems marked the first day of Country Fest '88 in Irwindale on Saturday. By mid-afternoon authorities and organizers estimated that well over 65,000 country music enthusiasts were on hand at the Santa Fe Dam recreation area to see such popular entertainers as Eddie Rabbitt, John Anderson, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and others.
