Efteling plans to unveil a $24-million nighttime spectacular this year that features water fountains, flame-throwers, synchronized spotlights and symphonic music set to fairy tale stories drawn from the Dutch theme park's signature attractions. Aquanura, which will be the third largest water show in the world, is scheduled to open on May 31 as part of the Netherlands theme park's 60th anniversary celebration. PIGEON FORGE, TENN. - Set against the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood is surrounded by a green canopy of hardwood trees and colorful blankets of flowers that envelop every ride and attraction in the Tennessee wilderness. Five of Europe's largest theme parks said Monday that they are teaming up to offset intense competition from Walt Disney Co.'s Euro Disneyland. The parks will offer visitors discount coupons for use at the four other parks and intensify efforts to ensure that travel agents do not over-promote Euro Disneyland.

It already seems like 2014 is shaping up as a great year for ride enthusiasts around the world, as a number of new theme parks are planned for Europe and several major attractions are in the works for Asia. The one-of-a-kind Puy du Fou historical theme park in the French countryside. The kids are yelling their lungs out on the upside-down roller coaster and scarfing down too much cotton candy. It's another theme park--but no one except us is speaking English. We're at Parc Asterix, about a half-hour's drive north of Paris, based on the enormously popular cartoon and comic-strip character Asterix the Gaul. Had we been really homesick, of course, we could have gone to Disneyland Paris; it's an easy train ride from central Paris, and plenty of English is heard there.

The $800-million Adventure World Warsaw theme park set to break ground July 21 will feature lands dedicated to mythical creatures, ancient legends, fantasy worlds and Polish history. PHOTOS: Adventure World Warsaw theme park in Poland Located about a half-hour southwest of Warsaw, the 240-acre resort is expected to debut in 2015 with a theme park, indoor water park, retail center and two hotels. About a third of Adventure World will operate year-round with the remainder of the theme park open from March until October.

Holiday World in Santa Claus, Ind., may be the only place on Earth where you can celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and the Fourth of July all in a single day. Photos: Top 10 Holiday World rides and attractions The family-owned theme park prides itself on its collection of record-setting rides and an award-winning water park that's included with the price of admission. In 1946, park founder Louis Koch opened Santa Claus Land in this small Indiana town to pay tribute to the town's namesake elf. The self-proclaimed “world's first theme park” featured a train, a toy shop, a few kiddie rides and, of course, daily visits by Santa Claus.
