An 11,000-volt cable snapped and electrocuted 28 Hindu devotees today during a midnight chariot procession, injuring eight others, domestic news agencies reported. A tall flagstaff being carried in the procession to celebrate the birth of Lord Rama, oneof the most revered of Hindu gods, rammed into the electricity wire. The cable split andfell on the crowd below, setting fire to a colorful chariot that was the highlight of the procession, United News of India reported.
