Sanmina Corp. said it will buy rival circuit board maker Elexsys International Inc. of Irvine in a stock swap valued at about $220 million. The bid is valued at $22.21 a share, based on Sanmina's closing price Tuesday of $67.31, up $1.19 on Nasdaq. Elexsys shareholders will receive 0.33 share of Sanmina for each of their Elexsys shares, the companies said. The purchase will broaden Sanmina's product offerings and enhance its technology, Chief Executive Jure Sola said in a statement.

Hegarty was previously vice president of sales and marketing at Sanmina Corp. Before that, he was with Kollmorgen Corp. for eight years. * Frederic Castan has joined the Westin South Coast Plaza hotel in Costa Mesa as executive chef.

* Michael W. Somogyi has joined ARV Assisted Living Inc. in Costa Mesa as vice president of apartment operations. He was previously president of the Residential Property Management division of Sares Regis Group and was responsible for managing more than 11,000 apartment units throughout Southern California, Colorado and Nevada. * Patrick Surridge has been named account supervisor for the Schraff Group, a Costa Mesa marketing communications firm.

Neal R. Aton has been named president of Avco Insurance Services, the insurance subsidiary of Avco Financial Services Inc. in Costa Mesa. He joined the company in 1988 as vice president of marketing. Aton assumed responsibility for AFS' U.S. insurance programs operation in 1990 and in 1994 added responsibility for its international insurance programs. He was appointed senior vice president of AFS Programs in 1995. Before joining Avco, Aton worked at E.F. Hutton & Co.
