Scratched from Friday night's lineup because of a pounding headache and a swollen throat, San Francisco outfielder Ellis Burks nonetheless wanted to play Saturday against Atlanta. After convincing the trainers he was OK, Burks hit two homers and drove in four runs as the Giants beat the Braves, 12-3, at San Francisco. It was the Giants' sixth straight win. "I woke up this morning not feeling as strong as I usually do--but good enough to play," he said. "And I'm glad I did."

Ellis Burks hit a leadoff home run in the 11th inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants over the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3, Monday night at Milwaukee. The Giants had not gotten a hit since the second inning until Burks connected against David Weathers (3-4). Brewer pitchers had retired 13 consecutive batters before Burks' 13th homer. Burks also had a two-run single.

Ellis Burks hit two home runs and tied his career high with seven runs batted in to lead the San Francisco Giants over the slumping Colorado Rockies, 10-1, Tuesday night. Burks went three for four with a two-run double in the first inning, a two-run homer in the third and a three-run shot in the seventh. Burks has 11 home runs, including four in three games since returning from the disabled list.
