A 63-year-old man charged with murdering a woman whose body was found near a lagoon was ordered held in County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail. Elmer Lee Nance of Barstow pleaded innocent to killing Nancy White, 22, whose car broke down Aug. 27, 1986, on Interstate 8, 2 miles east of Lake Jennings Park Road. Her nude body was found five days later near Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad.

A San Diego County Superior Court jury convicted a man of murder and rape Monday in a Metropolitan Homicide Task Force case where the primary piece of evidence was a tape-recorded confession made during an intense interview with two detectives. Elmer Lee Nance, a 63-year-old drifter, was convicted of killing Nancy Allen White on Aug. 27, 1986, at a map stop alongside Interstate 8 just east of El Cajon.

A 63-year-old man was ordered Monday to stand trial for the 1986 strangulation of a woman whose death was investigated by the Metropolitan Homicide Task Force. Elmer Lee Nance, a drifter who lived in San Diego, was also ordered to stand trial on two rape charges involving the victim, Nancy White, 22, of Orange County. White was last seen alive near her disabled car Aug. 27, 1986, at a map stop on Interstate 8 east of Lake Jennings Park Road.

The prosecution rested its case Thursday in the trial of a drifter accused of an East County murder in 1986. Elmer Lee Nance, 63, is being tried in the rape and murder of 22-year-old Nancy Allison White, who was killed in August, 1986, after stopping along Interstate 8 in East County.

A police task force investigating a series of 45 slayings in San Diego County has charged a Barstow man with murder in the killing of a military wife five years ago. Elmer Lee Nance, 63, was arrested at a bakery Friday in the San Bernardino County town of Barstow, accused of failing to register as a sex offender. Nance was convicted of molesting a child in 1974.
