In a bittersweet journey after 25 years, retired Adm. Elmo Zumwalt Jr. returned to Vietnam on Friday for the first time since he ordered the spraying of the defoliant Agent Orange that he believes led to the cancer death of his son. "It feels nostalgic," he said. "It's good to be back. I have for many years wanted to come to discuss important policy issues with the government of Vietnam."

President Clinton paid tribute to the "moral courage" of former Navy Adm. Elmo Zumwalt at his funeral in Annapolis, Md., and praised his role as a military reformer. Zumwalt, who as chief of U.S. naval operations during the close of the Vietnam War fought to end racism and sexual discrimination in the military, died Jan. 2 at the age of 79 of complications from cancer surgery.

A group led by Los Angeles-based investor Burton Borman has succeeded in a proxy battle to take over Seattle-based Todd Shipyards, which two years ago closed its San Pedro shipbuilding facility. Todd and Borman announced that they had agreed on a slate of nominees for a board scheduled to be elected at a special shareholders' meeting Sept. 16. Under the agreement, Borman is expected to replace David Wallace as chairman and assume the duties of chief executive from Hans Schaefer.
