Where you've seen her Before ruling as queen of England (and earning a Golden Globe nomination for that role in "The Young Victoria"), British actress Emily Blunt paid her dues as a peon slaving away for Meryl Streep in "The Devil Wears Prada" (which earned her a Globe nod in '07). She won that year, but it was for her performance in the BBC TV film "Gideon's Daughter." She has also turned heads with smaller, but memorable, roles in "Dan in Real Life" and "Charlie Wilson's War."

You can imagine the elevator pitch: "It's like 'Groundhog Day,' but with explosions, mech suits and Tom Cruise. " That would seem to describe director Doug Liman's upcoming sci-fi action movie "Edge of Tomorrow," judging by the new trailer released by Warner Bros. on Tuesday. Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's award-winning novel "All You Need Is Kill," the movie stars Cruise as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a soldier dropped onto a futuristic battlefield and killed within minutes. To his shock, he then wakes up shortly before the battle, which he relives over and over again in a time loop.

The diamond ring on Emily Blunt's finger is so blinding, it appears she might have ransacked the Crown Jewels during her recent stint playing the teenage queen of England in her new movie "The Young Victoria." Wearing a skin-tight, black Roland Mouret mini-dress, long hair loose around her shoulders, Blunt, 26, described by her colleagues as "warm, friendly, funny and down-to-earth" enters the lounge of the Four Seasons Hotel looking cool and glamorous, more '60s Mod than 19th century empress.

A pleasant fantasy with a crackerjack title, "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen"is a charming film whose few attempts at seriousness are best forgotten or ignored. When Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor are your stars, that is easy to do. Blunt and McGregor are two of the most gifted and attractive actors working today, able to play off each other with great style, and when they invest themselves in these amusing characters they bring to life the film's very contrived plot about bringing British angling to the desert of the Middle East.

Emily Blunt nearly stole last year's "The Devil Wears Prada" out from under its young star, Anne Hathaway, as the frenetically chic senior editorial assistant Emily Charlton. Critics stood up, lavishing tasty reviews on her. Now, while Blunt divides her time between London and Vancouver, where she lives with her jazz-singer boyfriend, Michael Bublé, Hollywood's waters have parted for her in a big way.

Melancholy and middle America aren't usually seen in the rom-com world. In "Arthur Newman," a romantic comedy that unfolds during a road trip to Terra Haute, Ind., they are refreshingly unexpected elements that soften us up for the rough patches the film hits along the way. Also working in the film's favor are Colin Firth and Emily Blunt, both well-versed in comedy and about as appealing on screen as actors come. They star as a couple of depressed souls whose paths cross one night at the edge of a seedy motel swimming pool.

A hostess escorted Emily Blunt to a private room in the commissary on the Universal Pictures lot, where a lone table had been set for a meal. The actress glanced around at the empty, window-less space and asked, "Might we be able to go out into the main dining room? I feel a bit cooped up in here. " As a team of handlers scurried to grant her request, one publicist whispered admiringly, "Wow, I've never had a star ask for less privacy. She's so cool, right?" Blunt, 29, seems to inspire this breathless sort of praise.
