CLUTCH * Jodi DeJong, scoring seven of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, made a free throw with 8.7 seconds left to give Westlake Village Oaks Christian a 43-42 victory over Pomona Catholic. * Nicole Nishinaka's only points, a three-pointer with 43 seconds left in overtime, gave Cypress a 55-54 victory over Anaheim Loara in a battle to stay out of the Empire League cellar.

In the Academy League: St. Margaret's 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 1--Kristin Petersen had two hits and scored one run for St. Margaret's (10-11, 6-3). In the Century League: No. 1 Foothill 5, El Modena 1--Trailing 1-0, Erin Mobley hit an RBI triple in the fourth, , and Caitlin Lowe hit a two-run home run in the sixth for Foothill (27-3, 9-0). In the Express League: Liberty Christian 9, La Verne Christian 8--Liberty Christian (17-6, 9-0) clinched a share of the league title.

The Katella boys' track and field team Thursday lost an Empire League meet for the first time in six years. Cypress won 12 of 16 events, including three by Mike Hicks, to defeat the Knights, 91-45. Hicks won the triple jump with a county-leading 43 feet 5 inches, the 110 hurdles in 16.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 42.1. Darren Shorter and David Napper won two events each for Cypress (3-0, 2-0).

Century Coach: Eddie Medina 2000 record: 11-14 League record: 3-7 Eddie Medina is the third coach in three years, replacing Shanna Stewart. Five starters return, including pitcher Crystal Soto. She will be surrounded by four other returning starters: outfielders Jessica Andrade, Jennifer Padilla and Carinee Rodriguez, and infielder Valarie Sanchez. Nicole Rivera and Elaina Mearez could also pitch.
