Six gunmen killed a British executive in an ambush on Mindanao Island, Philippine police said. John Tree, 56, vice president of the Philippine Cocoa Estate Corp., a Malaysian-Filipino firm, was aboard a service vehicle headed for a cocoa plantation when the men, armed with submachine guns, opened fire Saturday. Tree died at the scene, police said, while his Filipino driver suffered only slight injuries.
