To ease tensions over location filming, the City Council has amended its contract with the Entertainment Industry Development Corp. to give the nonprofit group responsibility for notifying residents of filming in their neighborhoods. Under the old system, those holding filming permits had to notify neighbors, an arrangement many residents complained about.

Cody Cluff was sentenced Monday to three years' probation on charges of embezzling public funds as head of the agency that promotes film production in Los Angeles. Cluff, accused of spending public money on excursions to strip clubs and a baseball camp, served three months behind bars while he was evaluated by state prison officials. He also repaid $80,000 to the Entertainment Industry Development Corp. as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

The former general manager of the agency that promotes film production in the city pleaded no contest to misdemeanor forgery . Darryl Seif was accused of forging a letter from the mayor's office and using a counterfeit city seal. A Superior Court judge sentenced him to three years' probation and a $1,000 fine. Cody Cluff, former head of the Entertainment Industry Development Corp., pleaded no contest last month to charges of embezzling public funds and could face up to two years in prison.

The board of directors of the Entertainment Industry Development Corp. appointed a new president Monday -- eight months after the former president was indicted on embezzlement charges. Steve MacDonald, who currently serves as a deputy to Mayor James K. Hahn in the San Fernando Valley, will start his new post April 19.

A judge dismissed seven of 11 criminal counts Thursday against Cody Cluff, accused of misusing and embezzling public funds as former head of the agency that promotes film production in Los Angeles County. Defense attorney Mark Werksman said the judge "took a meat ax" to the case by dismissing the counts alleging that Cluff spent embezzled Entertainment Industry Development Corp. money on strip joints, club memberships and a Dominican Republic baseball trip.
