Jeff Gordon, a four-time NASCAR champion, had gone 47 races without a pole -- the longest drought of his career. All it took was a trip to top sponsor DuPont's backyard to put the driver back on top. Gordon took the top spot for Sunday's Dover 400 with a fast lap of 156.162 mph Friday at Dover, Del. It's his first pole since Aug. 24, 2005, on the road course at Sonoma, Calif. "It feels like my first pole ever," Gordon said.

Tommy Clowers didn't bother checking the high bar that was 32 feet above the ground Friday night in the Moto X step-up competition at the X Games. His eyes focused on the nearly vertical dirt ramp that led to the bar. Finding just the right spot on the lip to launch was key to winning the contest in the tennis stadium outside Home Depot Center, and Clowers was right on target, clearing the bar on his first attempt to win his fourth gold medal in the event.

Fabiola da Silva is the leading female medal-winner in X Games history, a seven-time in-line skating gold medalist, but she won't even be in California when the games are contested today through Sunday at Staples Center and the Home Depot Center. Dallas Friday won her fourth gold medal in wakeboarding last year, then talked about catching BMX rider Dave Mirra, who leads all X Games contestants with 14 gold medals.
