It is amazing to me that our airport system has not come up with a way to eliminate blind spots when controllers are observing aircraft landings and takeoffs. With all the technology we have at our disposal, don't you think they could have placed strategically located television monitors in areas where vision is limited and had a direct view of the fateful plane on Runway 24 Left? At the very least, it would have assisted the controller in making a call that may have avoided this tragic story.

New eyewitness accounts may help authorities identify the driver whose unsafe lane change on the westbound Artesia Freeway caused a fatal collision in Cerritos, California Highway Patrol investigators said. Witnesses have been unable to recall the license number, make or color of the vehicle that cut off Sadie Boogard's 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer about 4 p.m. Tuesday, causing her to lose control and crash into another car whose passenger later died of her injuries.

Or will Metrolink be plagued by more mishaps that threaten passengers' safety and cause inconvenience?

A chill comes over Maureen Williams when she drives down the Santa Ana Freeway near the Alton Parkway exit, where her son and a friend were killed 3 1/2 months ago in a collision with a hit-and-run driver. "It was his birthday on Jan. 4," Williams said, holding back tears. "He would have been 22." Williams' son, William Baughn, and a group of five friends from Placentia were heading south in a Ford Bronco on Sept. 30 to go dancing in Tijuana. But at 7:45 p.m.

Three women were killed Saturday afternoon in San Dimas when their jet ski crashed into a powerboat, injuring four others, authorities said. The collision between the Sea-Doo watercraft and the boat occurred about 4:30 p.m. in Puddingstone Reservoir at Frank G. The three people killed — ages 25, 35 and 60 — were not identified, he said.
