That most rare of sights was seen in Carson on Sunday night: Galaxy players and coaches actually smiling and laughing. Winning will do that for a team that has made losing a habit during the 2007 Major League Soccer season. And because Sunday's 2-1 victory over FC Dallas at sold-out Home Depot Center was deserved, not gifted, the smiles were broader, the laughter louder.

Three set pieces — all engineered by one smooth operator by the name of David Beckham — and three goals. Definitely the math the Galaxy can fully embrace. And here's another number the team can wrap its head and arms around after Saturday's emphatic 3-1 victory over FC Dallas at the Home Depot Center in Carson: six. That would be the points separating the Galaxy from Dallas in the Western Conference. The Galaxy padded their lead at the top of the conference by taking advantage of a suddenly shaky Dallas defense and a miscue on the first goal from goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who had a decidedly difficult night.

FRISCO, Texas -- In a season already replete with curious twists and inexplicable turns, the Galaxy headed off in an almost bizarre new direction Tuesday night. The highlight, to select but one of many, came in the 84th minute, when Landon Donovan danced through the FC Dallas defense, rounded goalkeeper Dario Sala and stuck the ball in the back of the net.

FRISCO, Texas - Dan Kennedy finished with three saves to help Chivas USA tie FC Dallas 0-0 on Saturday. With the tie, FC Dallas (3-9-5) extended its winless streak to 11 games to set a new club record. The previous record of 10 games without a win was from July 2 to Sept. 10, 2005. FC Dallas is 0-7-4 during its winless streak and has been shutout four times during that span. Chivas USA is 5-7-4 and salvaged a tie despite only managing a season-low two shots. FC Dallas finished with 13 shots.

Last season the Galaxy bludgeoned teams on their way to a Major League Soccer title. This year, however, many of their victories have been of the moral variety. But hey, a win's a win, right? Take Saturday, for example, when the Galaxy scored two minutes into stoppage time to escape with a 1-1 tie with FC Dallas. And they did it behind a backup goalkeeper playing his first MLS game in nearly six years and a goal from a player who has started just twice in the last two seasons.

In his first significant player move since becoming coach of Chivas USA, Martin Vasquez has brought on board a youngster with impressive credentials, someone who could step right into the starting lineup. The Major League Soccer club this week acquired the rights to El Salvador national team midfielder Osael Romero from FC Dallas and immediately signed him. Romero, 23, is expected to arrive in Los Angeles from his home in Usulutan, El Salvador in the next week or two, after the necessary paperwork has been cleared.
