Two UCLA players were among the Top 20 picks in Major League Soccer's two-round SuperDraft on Thursday: Bruin midfielder Fernando Monge is going to the Montreal Impact with the second-to-last pick of the first round, while midfielder Ryan Hollingshead went to FC Dallas with the first pick of the second round. Cal State Bakersfield defender Kory Kindle was the 25th player taken overall, going to the Colorado Rapids. Monge, an all-conference selection from Seattle, was second on the team in minutes played this season, starting all 19 of UCLA's games, scoring five times and adding an assist.

Update: There's little more than pride on the line in this one because FC Dallas was eliminated from playoff contention last week and Chivas USA, winless since July 28, is guaranteed of finishing last in the Western Conference. Still, Chivas probably has more to play for since second-year Coach Robin Fraser is widely expected to be let go after the game.

Remember the Galaxy team that ran roughshod over the rest of Major League Soccer on its way to an MLS Cup title last season? Well, it's back. And after Sunday's methodical 2-0 win over FC Dallas in front of a sun-drenched Home Depot Center crowd of 21,933, an argument could be made that the team is as good as ever. "I've heard that from a lot of people. Which is good to hear," said defender Todd Dunivant, who scored the second goal Sunday. "Obviously, you don't want to be living in the past.

Update: Just three days after its CONCACAF Champions League opener, the Galaxy returns to MLS play Sunday against FC Dallas, part of a stretch that will feature Bruce Arena's team playing four times in 10 days. Galaxy captain Landon Donovan, listed as questionable for Sunday because of a strained left hamstring, didn't dress for the CCL win over Isidro Metapan, but David Beckham did, scoring a goal and setting up two others in just his second match in five weeks.

For much of Tuesday night, Chivas USA appeared to take its quarterfinal matchup in the U.S. Open Cup for what it was — a glorified exhibition game. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy sat. Other key players joined him for long stretches. It was Chivas' fourth game in 10 days. Fatigue was bound to play a role. And early, it did. By halftime, Chivas had failed to capitalized on nine shots against the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Pro league — the third tier of the North American soccer pyramid.

They beat FC Dallas of MLS, 2-0, in the third round of the Open Cup and have given up only one goal in their last three Cup matches.

FRISCO, Texas - Dan Kennedy finished with three saves to help Chivas USA tie FC Dallas 0-0 on Saturday. With the tie, FC Dallas (3-9-5) extended its winless streak to 11 games to set a new club record. The previous record of 10 games without a win was from July 2 to Sept. 10, 2005. FC Dallas is 0-7-4 during its winless streak and has been shutout four times during that span. Chivas USA is 5-7-4 and salvaged a tie despite only managing a season-low two shots. FC Dallas finished with 13 shots.
