Dylan Klumph of Encino Crespi got a chance Friday night to show how strong his leg truly is. Coming back from a torn ACL suffered in January while snow boarding to his plant leg, Klumph kicked a school-record 54-yard field goal to help the Celts defeat Loyola, 32-14, in a Serra League game. "It was definitely exciting," Klumph said. Klumph had special platelet rich plasma treatment when he had surgery in April that speeded up his recovery. It was his first field goal of the season.

The Western Conference coaches rendered a split decision Thursday on the Clippers when it came to selecting All-Star reserves: Chris Paul was in, DeAndre Jordan was out. The coaches picked Paul to play in the All-Star game Feb. 16 in New Orleans but left out Jordan despite lobbying by Clippers Coach Doc Rivers for inclusion of the NBA's leading rebounder. Paul has not played since Jan. 3 because of a separated right shoulder that was expected to sideline him for six weeks, but he indicated Thursday that he intended to participate alongside teammate Blake Griffin, who had already been selected a West starter in fan voting.

Matthew Aven , a freshman kicker at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, tied the NCAA Division III record for longest field goal Saturday, making a 62-yarder against host Cal Lutheran. The kick came with 1:05 left in the second quarter in Thousand Oaks. The 62-yard field goal ties the record established by Dom Antonini of Rowan University in 1976. Aven is five for eight on the season and has made kicks from 50, 53 and 62 yards. He made a 50-yard field goal earlier in the game. Cal Lutheran won, 20-6.

Justin Tucker is the man for the Baltimore Ravens. With the game - and quite possibly the entire season - on the line Monday night against the Detroit Lions, Coach John Harbaugh didn't turn to quarterback Joe Flacco, the reigning Super Bowl MVP and the highest-paid player in NFL history. Nope. On fourth-and-eight with 38 seconds remaining and the Ravens trailing by one, Harbaugh decided to let the guy who had accounted for all 15 of his team's points that night and who had made 32 straight field goals on the season attempt one more.

Big call by interim Coach Ed Orgeron. Big catch by hobbled Marqise Lee. Huge field goal by much-maligned USC kicker Andre Heidari. All of that in the final seconds, before a sellout crowd of 93,607 at the Coliseum, equaled a 20-17 victory for USC over No. 4 Stanford on Saturday night. The result broke a four-game Stanford winning streak against USC -- and made it just that much tougher for USC to to hire anyone other than Orgeron to be its next head coach. Heidari, who missed an extra point in the first quarter in a continuation of a season-long struggle, drove a 47-yard field goal right through the center of the goal posts with 19 seconds left in the game.

Darryl Kaminsky kicked a 27-yard field goal with six minutes 26 seconds left to lift Fountain Valley to a 17-14 intersectional victory over Carson Saturday night at Orange Coast College. Kaminsky, who had not kicked in the game because of a pulled quadriceps, was given an ultimatum by his coach, Eric Johnson, after a junior varsity kicker missed the point-after attempt on the Barons' first touchdown. And Kaminsky made good, as Fountain Valley defeated the defending City Section champions.

Sophomore linebacker Matt Abrams had never played a down of varsity football or kicked more than a couple of field goals for the Los Alamitos junior varsity team. But Thursday at Veterans Stadium, while breathing new life into the Griffins, he became another figure in a growing cast of characters that has turned Edison's season upside down.

In an embarrassing mistake, CBS was showing its national audience a commercial Saturday while Notre Dame's John Carney was kicking his game-winning field goal against USC. The field goal was shown on tape after the commercial. A network spokesman said an extra 60 seconds were handed over to the affiliates and that nothing could be done to cut back to the game. An attempt was made by CBS to lengthen the timeout, but the officials didn't grant it, the spokesman said.

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Phil Dawson will turn 39 years old later this month. He's at the tail end of his 15th season. And after spending 14 years in Cleveland with the Browns, the San Francisco 49ers kicker isn't exactly accustomed to the postseason stage. So on Sunday, when his big moment arrived, he made sure to appreciate the opportunity more than fear the pressure. Three seconds remained. A 33-yard field-goal attempt awaited to break a 20-20 tie and beat the Green Bay Packers in the opening round of the playoffs.

Chris Davis' life changed the moment he completed one of the greatest plays in college football history. The Auburn senior rarely walks by a television without seeing a replay of his game-winning return for a touchdown of a field-goal attempt by Alabama in the Iron Bowl in November. Davis became an instant folk hero at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium, which still might be shaking. He received a standing ovation in a geology class. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and is constantly posing for pictures and signing autographs as the Tigers prepare for Monday's Bowl Championship Series title game against Florida.

It took 43 years, but someone finally broke Tom Dempsey's record for the NFL's longest field goal. Denver's Matt Prater kicked a 64-yarder at the end of the first half Sunday against Tennessee, just clearing the crossbar to beat the mark by a yard. The kick trimmed the Titans' lead to 21-20. Dempsey set the record in 1970 with the New Orleans Saints, and the mark was subsequently tied by Denver's Jason Elam (1998), Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski (2011) and San Francisco's David Akers (2012)

When West Hills Chaminade High kicker Ben Kreitenberg booted a 27-yard game-winning field goal Friday night as time expired to hand Gardena Serra its first defeat, 38-35, in the Western Division final, he didn't even see the ball go through the uprights. "Oh my gosh, it was insane," Kreitenberg said. "I was face-first on the ground tackled by Bar Milo . " Milo is Chaminde's 280-pound offensive tackle who had promised Kreitenberg, "If you ever make a game-winning field goal, I'm going to tackle you. " The celebration pile grew larger and larger, with Kreitenberg on the bottom.

The Pac-10's most accurate field goal kicker of 1997 is accurate no longer. USC's Adam Abrams ended his consecutive field goal streak at 12 Saturday when he missed three field goals, from 39, 29 and 44 yards, against San Diego State at the Coliseum. His last missed field goal, a 34-yard attempt, was in the third game last season against California. * Senior Billy Miller has caught a pass in 13 consecutive games. Last year, he led the Trojans in receiving and was fifth in the Pac-10.

Tom Hess kicked a 19--yard field goal as time expired to lift visiting Corona del Mar over Huntington Beach, 19--16, in an error-plagued nonleague game. Hess had scored earlier on a one-yard run with just three minutes remaining to bring the Sea Kings to within one point of the Oilers. But instead of going for the two-point conversion and the victory, Corona del Mar Coach Dave Holland was content to go for the tie. "I wasn't thinking we might get the ball back," Holland said.

Most of the attention from media and defensive coordinators has been focused on Marqise Lee. Meanwhile, USC receiver Nelson Agholor has emerged as a weapon on a par with the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner. The sophomore from Florida has 44 receptions, tying him with Lee for the team lead, and is averaging a team-best 17.1 yards per catch. In USC's 20-17 upset of Stanford last week, Agholor caught eight passes for 104 yards. An 11-yard reception late in the fourth quarter helped set the stage for Andre Heidari's game-winning field goal with 19 seconds left.
