Crazy, zany and loony are three apt words to describe the end of Monday night's Fiesta Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium. You thought it would never end, but it did, with one of the most gutsy calls and remarkable plays in the history of college football. Ian Johnson scored the game-winning, two-point conversion run to lift Boise State to a 43-42 overtime victory over Oklahoma.

How you get from Idaho, to Arizona, to a Bowl Championship Series game, to play Oklahoma, in the Fiesta Bowl ... or, at least how Boise State did it: Start off as an Episcopal all-girls school in 1892, St. Margaret's Hall, offering advanced education in teaching and nursing. Have people refer to you as "Saint Mag's Hags" before, in 1932, becoming a junior college.

Fourth quarter, Ohio State leading Notre Dame by a touchdown but the Fighting Irish are carrying some momentum and have the Buckeyes in a hole. It's third and nine for Ohio State on its 16-yard line when quarterback Troy Smith skitters in the backfield, eluding tacklers, pumping once, twice, looking left and right, until zipping a 10-yard pass to tailback Antonio Pittman. Less than a minute later, it's third and 11 for Ohio State at its 25.

Utah Coach Urban Meyer didn't want to hear the word "unbeaten" from the Utes last summer. Meyer was angry when a few Utes let the word slip when talking about the upcoming season and what the Utes could be in a position to do. But this week, he's liking the sound of it. "To think that there's four or five teams in major football undefeated, I never thought that would happen because teams are too good," Meyer said. The Utes are one of four Division I-A unbeatens.

Utah quarterback Alex Smith, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist and already has earned his degree, is strongly considering declaring for the NFL draft instead of returning for his senior season. He is awaiting information from the NFL about where he might go in the draft, and also has been conferring with his uncle, Michigan State Coach John L. Smith. "It's pretty tough any time to turn down a first-round contract," said Smith, adding he has "heard a lot of different things."
