At least two videos have landed on YouTube claiming they show parts of the riot that erupted at a Foxconn plant in Taiyuan, China, this past weekend. News reports say a brawl among Foxconn workers broke out Sunday night and turned into a riot involving 2,000 people. According to Reuters , 5,000 police officers were on the scene to control the outburst. Forty people were taken to the hospital but there are conflicting reports about any deaths. The plant, which some reports say has an iPhone assembly line, is now expected to be closed for as many as three days.

A brawl involving about 2,000 workers broke out Sunday night at a dormitory that houses Foxconn employees in China's Shanxi province. Forty people were taken to hospitals for medical attention and "a number" of individuals were arrested, Foxconn Technology Group said in a statement. The official New China News Agency put the number of injured at 10. Foxconn, a major supplier to many of the world's electronics giants, is perhaps best known as a maker of Apple products, including iPhones.

Foxconn Technology Group is denying reports in the Chinese media that it forced vocational students to work at factories that make iPhones for Apple Inc. The controversy targeting Apple's manufacturing partner in China comes as Apple is expected to unveil the latest iPhone on Wednesday. Foxconn, which in recent months has come under heavy scrutiny in connection with working conditions in its factories, has acknowledged that it uses students on assembly lines but says they are not required to work there.

Apple's stock barely budged after the technology giant unveiled the iPhone 5, which it bills as the world's thinnest smartphone. Investors seemed to shrug off the announcement -- but that's not entirely shocking. Apple shares have, on average, fallen 1.4% the day the company launched all of the previous incarnations of the iPhone, according to Morgan Stanley. One of Apple Inc.'s largest suppliers has improved worker health conditions and safety after a sweeping inspection by a labor watchdog group. The Fair Labor Assn. said Tuesday that supplier Foxconn Technology Group had successfully completed more than 280 actions recommended this year by the group. Those included reducing workers' hours, enforcing breaks, changing the design of workers' equipment, updating maintenance policies and testing emergency equipment. After reports of suicides and dangerous working conditions at Foxconn's Chinese factories, Apple and its suppliers agreed to allow the Fair Labor Assn.
