Maybe it was the emotion of the moment. Or the difficulty of trying to find the right word in his third language. Either way, when Galaxy midfielder Marcelo Sarvas likened last month's Champions League series with Tijuana to a war, teammate Baggio Husidic could only shake his head. Husidic has experienced a real war. Trapped between competing armies in his native Bosnia, Husidic and his family fled for their lives, abandoning their comfortable home for a squalid refugee camp.

With the Galaxy S5, Samsung proves that less can be more. A year ago, Samsung tried to blow away consumers -- along with its chief rival, the Apple iPhone -- by packing seemingly every feature known to man into one device. The Galaxy S4 was a success, but consumers struggled to grasp the full capabilities of the device. To improve user experience, Samsung has gone the opposite way with the GS5. It consolidated many features into more understandable groups and eliminated other features altogether.

Samsung Electronics Co. has produced the most formidable rival yet to the iPhone 5s: the Galaxy S5. The device, released over the weekend, is the fifth edition of the company's successful line of Galaxy S smartphones. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, sold more than 10 million units worldwide just one month after being launched last year. The GS5 may be more of an incremental step forward from its predecessor and will face more competition from capable, lower-cost devices. But the new Galaxy is expected to be one of the highest-selling phones in the U.S. this year.

When the Galaxy signed Swedish midfielder Stefan Ishizaki this winter, it had one specific goal in mind. “We needed to improve our passing in the midfield,” said Bruce Arena, the team's coach and general manager. “We do that, it allows us to get Robbie Keane close to the goal.” Three starts into his Major League Soccer career Ishizaki is already rewarding Arena's confidence, setting up Keane for the only goal the Galaxy would need in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps before an announced crowd 20,847 at StubHub Center.

English soccer giant Manchester United will meet the Galaxy in a July 23 friendly at the Rose Bowl. The match will be the first in the team's summer tour of the United States, and it will also mark the first time the team will wear its Chevrolet-branded kits. General Motors paid a record $560 million over seven years to place the Chevy name and bow-tie logo on the team's uniform. United, which has won 13 of 21 English titles decided during the Premier League era, will be in the U.S. to compete in the International Champions Cup, a tournament that debuted last year and included two games at Dodger Stadium.

So what did we learn Sunday at the StubHub Center? Well, we learned the Galaxy, despite going winless in its first two games, is still one of Major League Soccer's elite teams. We learned that Chivas USA, despite losing just one of its first four games, is still a work in progress. And we learned that for Robbie Keane, the Galaxy forward born and bred in Ireland, a sunny 78-degree day is far from pleasant. “Robbie doesn't necessarily like these conditions,” Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena said.
