Three people, including a 15-year-old girl visiting from Texas, were killed early Sunday morning in separate gang-related shootings in South Los Angeles and Compton, police said. "It was a busy night," said Los Angeles Police Detective Michael Anderson. "Some weekends you have several gang-related shootings and some you don't have any."

A man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon and police were searching for the gunman after bullets tore through a residential neighborhood in Pico-Union, officials said. A man in his 20s walked up to another man near  Union Avenue and 18th Street, fired several shots at him and ran away, said Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Officer Nuria Vanegas. Vanegas didn't have information on whether the men knew each other but characterized the shooting as gang-related.

A 5-year-old boy and a man, neither connected to a gang, were wounded in separate gang-related shootings, police said Friday. The child, whose name was withheld, was accidentally shot by suspected gang members taking aim at someone else, Sgt. Pat Dailey said. He was slightly wounded by birdshot fired from a car passing a North Hollywood home Thursday, and was treated at the scene by paramedics, Dailey said.

A 36-year-old man was shot to death in Downey early Tuesday, authorities said.   Downey police received a call around 1:32 a.m. about shots fired in the 11600 block of Bellflower Boulevard, officials said in a news release. Responding officers discovered Wayne Patrick Cooper with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle, they added. Cooper was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. Authorities said Cooper is a known gang member, and the homicide is believed to be gang-related.

Seven witnesses came to court to identify Samuel Shabazz in five gang shootings, a volume of evidence a prosecutor called "staggering" Monday. "It's possible for one eyewitness to be mistaken; the odds against seven witnesses being mistaken are astronomical," Deputy Dist. Atty. Anthony Manzella told jurors in closing arguments. "When you convict the defendant, you can say ... you participated in seeing that justice was done."

One man was killed and another wounded in the foot Thursday in what police believe may have been gang-related shootings, Garden Grove police said. Neither man's name was released. The shootings took place shortly before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Buena Street and Sunset Avenue, where the body of a man in his late teens or early 20s was found, said Lt. Ben Stauffer, a spokesman for the department.

Two teen-agers were killed in separate gang-related shootings in Compton and Wilmington, authorities said Tuesday. Jesus Garcia, 16, of Lynwood, was found in a parking lot at Long Beach Boulevard and Orchard Avenue about 2:10 p.m. Monday, his body and legs riddled with gunshots, Compton police said. Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators, who are handling the case, say they have several strong leads.

A Los Angeles 18-year-old has been charged with killing a man and wounding two women in a series of gang-related shootings that have plagued the Oakwood area of Venice in recent months. Refugio Escobar was accused of using an assault rifle to shoot 21-year-old Anthony Bibbs 12 times outside an Oakwood-area apartment building Oct. 10. He also is charged with attempted murder in the wounding of Dinita White, 22, and Deborah Lewis, 37. Prosecutors said the attack was gang related.

Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating a shooting in Norwalk that left one man dead early Sunday morning, authorities said. Deputies responded to multiple calls of gunshots about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the 12000 block of Lowemont Street, said Lt. Jason Skeen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A man in his 20s was found on the sidewalk and pronounced dead at the scene, he said. The shooting is believed to be gang related, Skeen said, and sheriff's homicide and gang detectives are handling the investigation.

A man was shot in the face and in critical condition in a possible gang-related shooting in Koreatown early Sunday, police said. The man, whose name has not been released, was shot about 2:10 a.m. near the Jons Marketplace at 3334 W. 8 th St., said Sgt. Raul Pedroza with the Los Angeles Police Department's Olympic Station. “We believe it's a gang shooting,” Pedroza said. Police are “actively searching” for the shooter, and the victim remains hospitalized in “very critical condition,” he said.

An 18-year-old man was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in Pomona early Sunday. Jenesis Daniel Lopez was tagging several buildings near the 900 block of E. Holt Ave ue with another individual when he was confronted by two suspects, according to authorities. One suspect pulled out a gun and shot Lopez, who was identified by coroner officials, multiple times in the alley. Police received a 911 call about 2:20 a.m. reporting the shooting. Homicide Report: Tracking killings in L.A. County Lopez was found in the alley south of Holt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man shot to death Saturday night in the 1000 block of West Compton Boulevard has been identified as Kent Sewell, 27, of Compton, according to Lt. Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.  Sewell was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities found him shot and wounded in front of a business. Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department say the attack may be gang-related. No other information was available. Homicide Report: Tracking killings in L.A. County There have been at least 31 other shooting deaths in Compton's city limits this year, according to the Times' Homicide Report database.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 14-year-old girl who was shot multiple times Saturday night in Compton in what authorities believe was a gang-related shooting, authorities said. Deputies responded to a call of gunshots about 10:10 p.m. at the corner of Elm and Alameda streets and discovered the girl lying in the street, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of a 45-year-old man shot and killed in Whittier over the weekend. About 10 p.m. Sunday the man, his wife and another couple were standing in the front yard of a home in the 6100 block of Pioneer Boulevard when a white vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire. The man was shot multiple times and rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The three others were not shot. The vehicle continued north toward Whittier Boulevard.
