Long Beach Airport (LGB) this week will open a new parking structure, bringing all airport parking on-site and within walking distance of the main terminal building. But it will also shut down its cheapest lot. The new Lot B parking garage, under construction for more than a year near the terminal, holds about 2,000 cars. Airport spokeswoman Kim McMahon said the lot will open at 12:01 a.m. Friday. On the same day, remote parking Lot D at Lakewood Boulevard and Conant Street will be closed, although of course cars already parked there can remain until they exit, McMahon said.

Two new Las Vegas venues invite guests to - quite literally - have a blast. Letting loose with high-powered firearms may not be everyone's idea of a good time, but my visits to two indoor gun ranges suggested just how popular they are with tourists. The bed. After you've plunkeddown plenty for a session at a gun range, that credit card may be close to maxing out. Consider staying at the Plaza (1 Main St.; [800] 634-6575, http://www.plazahotelcasino.com ; rooms from $31 weekdays and $80 weekends)

RENO -- Although the announcement on same-sex marriage became the focus the week after President Obama officially kicked off his reelection campaign, his trip to Nevada was a reminder of the pocketbook issues that are more likely to swing voter attitudes.  And so Obama visited with a middle-class family in one of the battlegrounds that will determine his fate to highlight what his administration sees as a success in its attempts to subdue a...

Among all the special places inside his sprawling 10,700-square-foot mountaintop home, Daniel Coletti savors the vibe inside the living room most. It's a luxury dreamscape distinguished by mammoth walls of glass and Idaho-hewn stone. At night, he gazes out past the blue waters of an indoor-outdoor infinity pool and onto a vast citywide vista capped by the shimmering lights of the Strip. "It's like looking at a fire," his wife, Natalie, said. "You can't turn your eyes from it. " The property has another unique feature: Offered at $13.9 million, it's the most expensive residential listing in Las Vegas.

"Selling L.A. " reality show viewers may wonder if any of the featured homes actually sell. Although perhaps not in time for the closing credits, some houses under consideration for the show do find a buyer outside the roving eye of the camera. One home that agent Rebekah Schwartz was promoting to HGTV for its 15 minutes of fame was the Marina del Rey pad that former Laker Lamar Odom rented a few years back. Listed at $1.995 million in January, it closed early this month at $1.825 million.

Molly and Stan Hyman are hitting the road and they've put their garage up for sale. And by the way, their six-car garage comes with a house. The Burbank couple are automobile enthusiasts and restorers who in 1995 custom-built their garage/house to give themselves room to rebuild and showcase vehicles. The building replaced a home destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, said Stan Hyman, a 76-year-old retired hospital administrator and real estate developer. "Molly wanted a new 1930s-style Mediterranean place, and we both wanted good garage space.

Despite opposition from business owners who warned of rising parking costs, the Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to forge ahead with a plan to lease nine of the city's public garages in the hopes of generating cash to rescue this year's budget. Confronted by angry residents from Westwood, Hollywood, Sherman Oaks and elsewhere, council members said they faced a choice between making new reductions to parks, public safety and the planning department and continuing to subsidize below-market rates at city-owned garages.

Troubled actor Charlie Sheen had left his Mercedes-Benz in his open garage with the keys in it when it was stolen and later found crashed in a ravine off Mulholland Drive, police said Friday. The 2009 Mercedes four-door sedan was found badly damaged about 350 feet down from Mulholland Drive about two miles from Sheen's home in a gated community in Sherman Oaks. After an extensive search on foot and by helicopter, rescue crews did not find a driver or passengers in the vicinity of the stolen car. Los Angeles fire and police officials learned the car had been in an accident just after 4 a.m. when the Mercedes' electronic security system automatically notified them.

Former Countrywide Financial Corp. chairman and chief executive Angelo R. Mozilo and his wife, Phyllis, have sold their house in Thousand Oaks for $2.9 million. Countrywide helped fuel the boom in risky subprime loans that led to the foreclosure crisis. Federal prosecutors shelved a criminal probe of Mozilo last year after determining that his actions in the mortgage meltdown — which led to a $67.5-million settlement against him — did not amount to criminal wrongdoing.

Robert E. Gray, co-founder and longtime chief executive of women's clothier St. John Knits, died Tuesday at his Orange County home after a long illness. He was 86. Gray and his wife, Marie, started the company in a San Fernando Valley garage in 1962 on a romantic whim. Marie Hermann, a model who used the surname St. John professionally, wanted to raise money for a Hawaiian honeymoon, the story goes. She persuaded her fiance, Gray, who was an apparel salesman, to show a sample of a dress she designed and knit to a store buyer, thinking she might sell 20. Gray returned with orders for almost 200. "I absolutely collapsed," Marie Gray said Thursday.

From Philadelphia — You hear about someone and how impressive he is as a person, solid and all that. It has to be just a good show for the cameras, doesn't it? No one is too good to be true until you talk to Chris Paul. He has it, whatever it is that allows someone to have such an impact on those around him. It's one thing to feel chills while watching the Clippers' peewee guard go razzle and dazzle on everyone on the court. It's quite another to be moved and feel what his coach and teammates have been saying all along: He's special.

Inside a mobile command center parked in the heart of Hollywood, Los Angeles City fire captains huddle around a bank of radios, monitoring six frequencies used by local law enforcement agencies. It was here on Friday night and early Saturday morning that reports of car fires streamed in, one by one. As the firefighters charted the locations on an ever-expanding map pinned to the wall, it quickly became apparent they were following the path of a serial arsonist. "He's here, he's here, now he's here," said Capt.

In reading "A Garage Is Not a Home" (Editorial, Nov. 28) I was startled to read not only one family's home is a garage, but that as many as 42,000 families live in makeshift garages. It is deplorable that some human beings could be so merciless as to charge someone to live in his garage which has no heat, bathroom, windows, or hot water. It is sad to read that so many families must live under these conditions because a garage is all they can afford. It is obvious that Los Angeles needs and has needed some new housing for the poor and homeless.
