A Buena Park woman and her two children were injured early Monday when their car swerved out of control on wet streets in Garden Grove and slammed into three parked city vehicles, including a street sweeper. Patricia Ann Kelly, 26, and her son, Jason, 7, were in serious condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center following the 8 a.m. accident on Garden Grove Boulevard at Gilbert Street, hospital representatives said.

The eighth annual Korean Festival, which includes three days of parades, cultural displays, martial arts demonstrations and a health fair, opens today at noon in Garden Grove's Koreatown. Sponsored by the Korean Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, the event honors the city's large Korean business community, located on Garden Grove Boulevard between Magnolia and Brookhurst streets. The festival begins with a carnival at noon in KD Plaza, 9590 Garden Grove Blvd.

On the eve of a Superior Court hearing to determine the fate of a businessman's plans for a juice bar that would feature exotic dancers, more than three dozen residents gathered at the steps of City Hall on Monday to support council members who voted against the proposal. A Superior Court judge has ordered the city to reconsider its denial of the proposal because zoning allows "adult activity" businesses in the area. A court hearing on the matter is scheduled for today.

Five peep show businesses in Garden Grove have until noon today to remove the doors from their video viewing booths, under a preliminary injunction issued by Superior Court Judge John C. Woolley. At the request of the city, Woolley granted the injunction Dec. 28 to enforce the city's peep show regulation ordinance on the Adult Bookstore, the Bijou, A-Z Bookstore, Garden of Eden Bookstore and Hip Pocket Bookstore, all located along Garden Grove Boulevard.

The continuing struggle between operators of peep shows and the city of Garden Grove took another turn Monday as four video arcades complied with a court order to remove the doors on interior booths--but replaced them with curtains. "They've taken down the doors but put up curtains, and that's absolutely not in compliance with the municipal code," said City Atty. Stuart B. Scudder.

The owner of a closed Garden Grove Boulevard auto repair shop and car rental agency is seeking $1.4 million in compensation from the city after her businesses were seized and bulldozed last year to make way for a Redevelopment Agency housing project. In the first eminent domain case to go to jury trial in Garden Grove, property owner Daniela Goia claims that the value of her closed businesses has been ignored by city appraisers and offers for the property are too low.

Three women believed to be involved in a gunfight that injured one of them were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Monday after they allegedly opened fire on a news photographer who followed their car from the scene. Arrested were Tho Minh Luu, 20, of Yorba Linda; Hong Thanh Le, 21, of Santa Ana; and Mindy Nguyen Dao, 23, of Canoga Park. Dao was taken to Western Medical Center in Anaheim, where she was being treated for a gunshot wound in the back.

Eligible homeowners may qualify for free or low-cost house painting under a program offered through the city's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department. The program is offered to residents of an area bounded by Lampson Avenue, Garden Grove Boulevard, Magnolia Avenue and just east of Loraleen Street. Residents who are not eligible for this program may qualify for a separate program to improve the exterior of area homes.

A car struck and killed a 60-year-old Garden Grove woman as she crossed Yockey Street in Garden Grove, police said Saturday. Yang Sun Lee had walked between two parked cars and into the street when she was struck by a car traveling north near Garden Grove Boulevard at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Police Sgt. Larry Ebelt said. Lee died at Fountain Valley Hospital at 9:10 p.m. The driver was not charged.
