When Bruce Allen became a sports agent in 1985 at 29, his most obvious asset was the football background he had gained as the son of George Allen, the former Ram and Washington Redskin coach who is now at Cal State Long Beach. Less obvious an asset, but certainly no less important, was Bruce Allen's access to the University of Nevada Las Vegas football program through his former partner. With the aid of two former UNLV coaches, Allen's agency, GBA Sportsworld, Inc.

A Maricopa County civil court jury in Phoenix awarded former NFL player Vince Amoia $81,000 in damages in a suit against sports agent Bruce Allen. The jury found Allen and his agency, GBA Sportsworld of Phoenix, to be in breach of contract and breach of fiduciary responsibility. Amoia, a former GBA Sportsworld client, alleged that Allen and then-GBA partner Bob Owens conspired to sell him a Tempe, Ariz., home at an inflated price.

For much of this year, the Brighton Place Apartments have been a modern ghost town, standing unfinished and unoccupied behind a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire in a blighted South Phoenix neighborhood. Work stopped last February with construction on the 80-unit, low-income housing project nearly finished. The project's developer, Future Facilities, Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to stave off foreclosure.
