The Anaheim computer company reported a loss of $577,000, or 5 cents a share, for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30. Those results, which included a $994,000 loss on the sale of its European operations, contrasted with a profit of $144,000, or 1 cent a share, for the previous year. Sales declined 5% to $42.9 million from $45.2 million.

General Automation Inc., an Anaheim maker of business computer systems, said it has signed a joint venture agreement with Ingenieria de Sistemas Electronics S.A. of Madrid. The deal allows a new Spanish company, financed equally by the two partners, to make and distribute General Automation's Zebra line of business systems in Spain and Portugal. This is the second foreign distribution deal General Automation has signed in recent weeks.

General Automation Inc. said Wednesday that it trimmed third-quarter losses to $3.3 million from $4.5 million a year earlier, and appears headed for profitability in the current quarter on the strength of gains from its recent restructuring. The company also announced that it plans to cut short by more than a month the current fiscal year, a period marked by a major overhaul in its makeup and capital structure. The Anaheim-based computer maker posted revenue of $8.
