Prep football Lance Neal was named the football coach at Fountain Valley, Athletic Director Mike Henigan said. Neal replaces George Berg, who resigned at the end of last season. Neal, 32, has been a defensive coordinator the last 10 seasons, nine years at Irvine and last season at Capistrano Valley.

Fountain Valley High School assistant coaches Guy Carrozzo and George Berg, Bishop Amat head Coach Don Markham and La Canada head Coach Steve Silverman are the final candidates for the position of head football coach at Ocean View High, John Webb, the school's activities director, said Wednesday. The finalists will be interviewed Friday by a panel to consist of Webb, Athletic Director Tim Mennealy and Principal John Myers. An announcement is expected to be made Monday, Webb said.

George Berg of Ojai was awarded the California Library Assn.'s 1996 President's Award for his efforts to find funding sources for the Ventura County library system. Berg, a retired engineer, led two campaigns to pass a parcel tax benefiting the Ojai Library. The first campaign failed in November 1995 by a small margin. Berg spearheaded a successful second campaign in March, which has allowed the Ojai Library to open daily and increase hours from 24 to 55 per week.

Simi Valley motorists are advised to avoid the westbound Madera Road off-ramp on the Simi Valley Freeway today through Friday because of ongoing construction work, officials said. The off-ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday, said George Berg, a city traffic engineer. Road crews will be completing work on the widening of the Madera Road overpass, he said. Commuters are urged to use the First Street off-ramp instead.

The westbound off-ramp of the Simi Valley Freeway at Madera Road in Simi Valley will be intermittently closed to motorists Tuesday through Friday for construction work, city officials said. The off-ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., said city Traffic Engineer George Berg. The closure will allow road crews to restripe a portion of Madera Road between the freeway off-ramp and Cochran Street. The work is part of a $3.
