Moorpark 38, Compton 6--Running back Gil Carrillo rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another as the Raiders (5-2, 2-0 in Western State Conference action) overwhelmed Compton (1-6, 0-2). Carrillo, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound sophomore, accounted for three of his scores in the first quarter to put the game out of reach early. He finished with 56 yards rushing.

An argument that began early Thursday in a popular restaurant and bar ended in a fatal stabbing, sheriff's officials said. The altercation moved outside Barney's Beanery on Santa Monica Boulevard, and three to four men pulled a knife on the victim about 1:30 a.m., said Lt. Gil Carrillo of the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau. Carrillo said the 40-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died. The assailants are still at large. -- Jia-Rui Chong

A 19-year-old La Puente man arrested in the shooting death of a teen-age boy inside a City of Industry movie theater has been released by authorities. A search of Fernando Solis' home and further investigation revealed that he was not involved in the April 22 murder of Marco Facio, 17, at the Puente Mall 4 AMC Theater, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Gil Carrillo said. Facio was shot to death, and his 20-year-old female companion wounded, at 11:15 p.m.

Authorities released the names of two adults and two children who died in an apartment fire last week and declared the case a murder-suicide triggered by domestic troubles. Det. Gil Carrillo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Robert Brown, 33, apparently set the fire, killing himself and his wife, Carolina Brown, their 3-year-old daughter, Kimberly, and son, Robert Jr., who was almost a year old.

Three men arrested in the shooting death of a Duarte night clerk were ordered released for lack of evidence, sheriff's officials said Wednesday. Michael Reese, 38; Calvin Capers, 21; and Roland Bynum, 24, were arrested Monday afternoon at an apartment complex near the 7-Eleven store where 51-year-old Syed Hussain was shot during a robbery early that morning. Hussain--a father of five and co-owner of the store--had apparently complied with his assailants but was shot anyway.

As the jury began deliberating over the guilt or innocence of accused Night Stalker Richard Ramirez last week, casting was already under way for a TV movie based on the Night Stalker's bloody crime spree. Ramirez is being tried for 13 murders, mutilations, burglaries and various sex crimes. The trial began Jan. 30. "Trackdown: Anatomy of a Manhunt" will be produced by Ron Gilbert and directed by Bruce Green for ABC.

Todd Preston passed for 215 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third score Saturday night to lead Moorpark College to a 35-0 Western State Conference Northern Division victory over host Ventura. Preston, who completed 14 of 23 with one interception, threw for scores spanning 47 and five yards to Mark Henrie (four catches, 80 yards) and ran for a one-yard touchdown. Moorpark's Gil Carrillo, third in the WSC in rushing, gained a season-high 187 yards in 19 carries and scored on a 54-yard run.

Before the showdown by the surf, Moorpark College football Coach Jim Bittner worried that his team would fall victim to Santa Barbara City's high-powered passing attack. The Vaqueros indeed tried to reach high gear, but six turnovers--including four interceptions of passes by Jerrod DeGeorgia--caused the offense to lurch, and the Raiders escaped with a 37-28 victory Saturday in a Western State Conference North Division game.
