Glen Lukenbill scanned the weight room at El Modena High School, which was filled with players grunting and lifting. To him, it was home, sweat home. For 20 years, this was where Lukenbill created offensive linemen. It was a job he did well, as El Modena played in five Southern Section Southern Conference championship games during that time. Now, after two years away from football, Lukenbill has returned to do what he did so well.

For years, opposing coaches have been wondering if there's something special in the city of Yorba Linda's water system that magically produces those giant linemen at Esperanza High School. Big linemen have become the trademark of Esperanza's football program, which has qualified for the playoffs each of the last 13 seasons. The list of former Esperanza linemen reads like the Who's Who of prep football.

British Speedway League stars Sam Ermolenko and John Cook will be on the program tonight for the weekly motorcycle races at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. Gates open at 6:30 with the first race scheduled for 8. Ermolenko finished third in the World Final last year in England, losing a runoff to Danish riders Erik Gundersson and Hans Nielsen.
