Children from Glenoaks Elementary School in Glendale have spent May collecting food and clothing as part of "Baby Month," a series of PTA projects designed to help local families in need. The donations will go to Loaves and Fishes, a Glendale charitable organization, and the Salvation Army.

A Glendale school district task force on Tuesday recommended expanding the attendance areas of two nearby schools to ease overcrowding at Horace Mann and John Marshall elementary schools. The boundary change, the first proposed change in the district since 1977, would reassign 129 students from Mann to John Muir Elementary School and 22 students from Marshall to Glenoaks Elementary School.

In an effort to ease crowding at Horace Mann and John Marshall elementaries, the Glendale school board Tuesday voted to expand the borders of three nearby schools. The changes, the first of school boundaries in the district since 1977, will result in the reassignment of 129 students from Mann to John Muir Elementary, 33 students from Marshall to Richardson D. White Elementary and 22 students from Marshall to Glenoaks Elementary School.

Parents of students at Glenoaks Elementary School have established a foundation to raise money for the school. The first goal of the foundation is to buy new playground equipment. Future goals include expansion of the word processing program, a physical educational consultant for the primary grades and foreign language instruction. The first fund-raiser will be an "Ask a Professional Day" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 21 at the school, 2015 E. Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale.

Glenoaks Elementary School students have donated more than 1,000 pounds of children's goods to help Glendale Adventist Medical Center open a new "Kids Only" room for needy families, officials said Thursday. The services center oversees volunteers who run the hospital's Thrift Shop, which will house the new 15-by-17-foot Kids Only room. It is scheduled to open sometime next week.
