NEW YORK - Grant Hill's left ankle was in a bucket of ice, his right knee wrapped in ice, his day now over after a game-changing matchup against New York Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony. All the Clippers asked the 40-year-old Hill to do Sunday was to sit out the first 32 1/2 minutes of the game - which Hill said "equates to about 1 hour 40 minutes of sit-time" - and then enter the game to face one of the NBA's most dangerous scorers. Anthony entered the game averaging 28.7 points, second in the league, and he had 38 against the Clippers through three quarters.

NEW YORK - The Clippers' 102-88 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden was impressive on many levels. The Clippers showed a lot in bouncing back after an embarrassing 22-point loss at Miami on Friday night. Chris Paul looked like Chris Paul in closing out the game, scoring seven of his 25 points in the fourth quarter. Jamal Crawford scored 11 of his 27 points in the fourth. And Grant Hill played tremendous defense against Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony when it counted most.

“Supermassive,” Grant Stevens' L.A. solo debut, is a high-tech invitation to slow down and look inward. At a time when digitally transmitted info provides more visual stimulation than ever, the young Australian artist's exhibition at L.A. Louver turns away from the image glut of modern life to make room for an old-fashioned, even romantic experience of one's place in the cosmos. The three-room show begins in an intimately scaled gallery in which six modest prints hang. Delicate and refined, they act as a sort of decompression chamber between the outside world and a pair of darkened galleries in which two videos play.

SACRAMENTO - A former deputy Los Angeles city attorney, convicted of soliciting sexual favors from an 18-year-old defendant in exchange for promising to help her avoid jail time, was among 128 people pardoned by Gov. Jerry Brown last year. In 1990, George Schwartz received a one-year sentence in Los Angeles County Jail for the crime. Weeks ago, his name was added to the growing list of those who have received official forgiveness from Brown. The full list was released Friday. In April, the governor commuted the potential life sentence of Shirley Ree Smith, who was convicted in 1997 of killing her grandson, saying he had "significant doubts" about her guilt.

Grant Hill is regaining his stride slowly but surely. The Clippers' veteran forward played in back-to-back games against the Portland Trail Blazers over the weekend, the latest step in his recovery from a bruised right knee suffered in the preseason. After playing 14 minutes in the Clippers' loss in Portland on Saturday, the seven-time All-Star returned to action for 20 minutes Sunday in the Clippers' 96-83 win over the Trail Blazers, scoring six points with two assists. Is the knee holding up?

Apple's retail store design has been granted a trademark from the U.S. government, giving the company some protection from copycat retailers. The Cupertino, Calif., company's "clear glass storefront" design, complete with "large, rectangular horizontal panels over the top of the glass front," received trademark status last week from the U.S Patent and Trademark office.  The trademark covers the store's interior furniture and fixtures as...

WASHINGTON - A bipartisan group of senators has agreed on a plan to grant legal status to most of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., which could form the basis for a far-reaching overhaul of immigration laws this year. The Senate blueprint, drafted during weeks of closed-door meetings by leading senators from each party, will probably set parameters for a contentious legislative battle over the next several months. The eight senators involved intend to release their proposal publicly Monday.

More than two years after the Bell corruption case erupted, the prosecution called its first witness Friday in an effort to show that the leaders of the small, working-class city became some of the highest-paid city politicians in California by serving on boards that sometimes met just so they could approve further pay hikes. Rebecca Valdez, Bell's city clerk who has been granted immunity in exchange for her testimony, testified that it was her job to take notes at council meetings, including marking the start and end time of the various boards on which council members served, such as the Solid Waste and Recycling Authority.

Federal officials awarded California's new health insurance exchange a $674-million grant, providing money for a crucial marketing campaign aimed at millions of uninsured consumers. The state-run insurance exchange, Covered California, is seeking to fundamentally reshape the health insurance market by negotiating with insurers for the best rates and helping consumers choose a plan. Enrollment in the program starts in October for policies going into effect Jan. 1, when much of the federal healthcare law kicks in. Although some states have resisted President Obama's massive insurance expansion, California has been forging ahead to set up its online marketplace.
