"He's Just Not That Into You," in movie theaters this weekend, plays in moments like an instructional film, with characters speaking in boxy, formulaic sentences meant to assure or warn women of how they can truly read the men in their lives. It carries itself like a public service announcement: smug and certain and pedantic. But in this case, even more important than the words is who's saying them.

Her sunny outlook Three months in Los Angeles, and Kay Hanley isn't missing her native Massachusetts. "Sunny weather can be oppressive," the 35-year-old singer says, "but we're making the adjustment well. It's been kind of seamless." Hanley, the former vocalist of Boston pop favorites Letters to Cleo, and husband Michael Eisenstein, the band's guitarist, started a new chapter this year when they relocated their family (including Zoe, 4, and Henry Aaron, 10 months).

This week in New York, broadcast network executives began unveiling their fall season schedules to advertisers. It's the biggest event of the year in the television business -- known as the "upfronts" -- when advertisers are urged to buy prime-time commercial spots before the beginning of the new season. * ABC wants laughs to go with drama ABC, already flush with successful dramas, is picking up a few more to bolster its ranks, and is looking for a new comedy hit.

Do you want to talk about: "He's Just Not That Into You"? Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly (and many more) make a romantic comedy just in time for Valentine's Day. What's not to like? Well, it did rip the title from a self-help book written by "Sex and the City" writer Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, but you know it's not going to be nearly as good as that show. (This film's writers previously wrote "Never Been Kissed." Yeah.
