Arraignment on the misdemeanor charges was scheduled for Dec. 17. Police gave this account: Hall was in a parked car in the North Park area of San Diego with Anthony Thompson, 26, of San Diego, hours after the Chargers' 20-9 loss at Seattle on Oct. 27.

The San Diego Chargers have all sorts of fascinating facts about Courtney Hall, the center they selected in the second round of April's National Football League draft. They will tell you about how he bench-pressed 225 pounds 36 times in a row at the combine scouting workouts in Indianapolis last winter. Nobody else did more. They will tell you that Hall was identified as "gifted"--135 IQ or higher--by the California educational system when he was a fifth-grader in Carson. They will tell you that Hall, 20, will be the youngest player in the NFL when training camp opens in July.

Less than three years ago, wide receiver Quinn Early answered the phone to learn happily he had been selected by the Chargers in the third round of the draft. He was told he was going to figure prominently in the team's future, along with first-round draft choice, wide receiver Anthony Miller. And he was going to be catching passes from his former Iowa teammate, Mark Vlasic. Friday, Quinn Early came home to a blinking answering machine, and he knew.
