Lakers Coach Phil Jackson keeps saying he's not concerned about Pau Gasol 's hamstring injury. But someone on the Lakers is worried. "I'm concerned about it, definitely," Gasol said. "There's no set time to return, no set date. I just don't want it to turn into something long-term." It's almost at that point. Gasol was sidelined Friday against Dallas, the second regular-season game he missed after sitting out the last six exhibition games. The Lakers continue to call him day to day because of a strained right hamstring, but it has practically become week to week.

Chris Paul went through the Clippers' light shoot-around Thursday before Game 3 of the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, saying his right hamstring was fine and that he would play. The Clippers had two days off for Paul to rest since Game 2 Monday night. “I didn't do too much,” Paul said. “But I'll be ready for tonight.” The best-of-seven series is tied at 1-1. The Clippers lost the home-court advantage by losing Game 1 at Staples Center. "We understand that in order for us to win this series we have to win at least one game here,” Paul said about playing in Oakland at Oracle Arena.

MIAMI -- Pedro Martinez slowly walked off the mound. The New York Mets have no idea how long before he'll return. Robert Andino's first career home run with two outs in the 10th inning gave the Florida Marlins a 5-4 victory over the Mets on Tuesday night after Martinez departed with a leg injury. Already coming off two injury-plagued seasons, Martinez limped away with a strained left hamstring in the fourth inning, after 57 pitches. "He said he felt kind of a pop," Mets Manager Willie Randolph said.

Chris Paul stood before the assembled media Wednesday in his Clippers practice gear, a black brace loosely hanging from his lower right leg. After answering several questions about his right hamstring injury and how the Clippers were ready to play the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the playoffs Thursday in Oakland, Paul eased his way to a training table and sat. Paul didn't practice for the second straight day. In fact, Clippers Coach Doc...

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp, sidelined with a right hamstring injury since May 30, experienced a mild setback in his recovery, Manager Don Mattingly said Sunday. Kemp, who has been working out with the team after rehabbing recently at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz., was expected to return to the active roster Friday. “We've hit a little bit of a snag because he felt just a little something today still,” Mattingly said. The medical staff will watch Kemp run Sunday and assess his status.

Chris Paul was direct and to the point when asked how much of a concern his right hamstring was for him. “None,” he said Monday at the Clippers' shoot-around in preparation for Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors in their first-round Western Conference playoff series. Paul was seen grabbing his hamstring late in the second quarter of Saturday's game after he chased down Warriors guard Stephen Curry and knocked the ball out of bounds. Paul came out of the game with 36.2 seconds left in the second quarter, then went right back in after the Warriors turned the ball over.

In cold, complex medical terms, Byron Scott and Magic Johnson are nursing injured biceps femoris tendons. In equally cold but easier-to-understand terms, it means the Lakers are simply hurtin'. Down, 2-0, in their best-of-seven championship series against Detroit, the Lakers have been hamstrung by hamstrings. Their starting guards have injured ones. Hamstring injuries are among the most common in sports, although that doesn't make them any less painful. The hamstring is made up of three long tendons that sound like dinosaur names-- semitendinosus, semimembranosus and biceps femoris-- and are located behind the thigh, stretching from under the buttocks to past the back of the knee.

The San Diego Chargers can envision rookie outside linebacker Larry English stepping in for All-Pro Shawne Merriman one day. First, they'd just like to see English step on the field. The No. 16 pick from Northern Illinois has been nursing a hamstring injury -- the first of his football career -- and has been relegated to spectator status in training camp. "They're just being precautionary and making sure it's completely 100% before I come back and get going full speed," he said.

Pau Gasol finally will play for the Lakers tonight when they face the Chicago Bulls at Staples Center. The right hamstring that kept Gasol out of the Lakers' first 11 regular-season games, the injury that hampered him for just over five weeks, healed enough to where he feels comfortable enough to play in a game. "I think that I'll be able to go tomorrow," Gasol said after practice Wednesday. "It felt great today and I don't plan on any reason why it wouldn't feel the same way tomorrow."

Having two days off to rest before the Clippers play another playoff game against the Golden State Warriors is a good thing for injured L.A. guard Chris Paul. Paul has been dealing with a right hamstring injury that first occurred in the second quarter of Game 1 of the Western Conference playoff series between the Clippers and Warriors. The Clippers don't play Game 3 of the best-of-seven series that's tied at 1-1 until Thursday night in Oakland. “He needs it, because I think he's doing everything he can with it, to be honest,” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said about Paul.

The Clippers got closer to full strength Thursday with the return of J.J. Redick, but it may be the closest they get for a while. Coach Doc Rivers said Jamal Crawford and Danny Granger may not come back before the postseason from injuries that have sidelined them since late last month. The Clippers have five games left in the regular season after playing the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. "I'd be surprised if we saw either one of them until the playoffs, maybe," Rivers said.

DALLAS  -- Danny Granger was the latest of the Clippers to go down, suffering a strained left hamstring in the fourth quarter that forced him from the game against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. Granger said he will be reevaluated Friday and is listed as day to day. Granger was injured when Vince Carter came under him and forced the Clippers forward to twist his body. "He hit me and spun me sideways," Granger said. "I walked in the [locker room] and we tested it. It was strong, just some pain.

Tre Madden is growing accustomed to spring restarts. In 2012, he moved from linebacker to tailback during spring practice but suffered a season-ending knee injury. Last year, he tested the knee during spring while readying for a breakout fall performance. Madden rushed for more than 100 yards in four of USC's first five games before a hamstring injury slowed or sidelined him in the final nine. On Tuesday, the junior from Aliso Viejo continued to show that the problems are behind him. He shared most of the first-team reps with Javorius Allen as the Trojans returned from a one-week break and went through another 120-play workout in Coach Steve Sarkisian's fast-paced, no-huddle offense.

Alone with his pain near midcourt, Magic Johnson, his left leg dragging, twirled and flailed his arms in anger. Tears welled, then were suppressed, before Johnson finally hobbled off with a look of finality late in the third quarter Thursday night. If Johnson needed solitude to deal with his strained left hamstring, the same type of injury that has sidelined teammate Byron Scott in the National Basketball Assn. championship series, the remaining Lakers had no choice but to try to hold their lead over the Detroit Pistons in Game 2. But the Lakers simply did not have enough bodies and perhaps perseverance to prevent the Pistons from taking a two-games-to-none lead with a 108-105 victory before 21,454 fans at the Palace.

If it feels as if the Lakers have been here before, it's because they have. The Pau Gasol hamstring watch began its second engagement Monday when the Lakers forward-center was deemed doubtful for tonight's game against the Houston Rockets because of a mild to moderate strain in his left hamstring. If Lakers followers sighed, it was understandable, seeing how Gasol sat out the first 11 games of the season because of a strained right hamstring that was similarly labeled day to day but dragged on for almost six weeks and included two attempts to practice followed by flare-ups, and setbacks, the next day. A little more than six weeks after returning, Gasol checked out of Sunday's game after seven minutes against Dallas and checked in to see team doctor Steve Lombardo on Monday morning.

What do you think about when you're working out your glutes? If you're like most, you're just counting reps, waiting for the whole thing to be over. But fitness expert Tosca Reno , author of the new book "The Start Here Diet," says you could be cheating yourself out of gains if you don't focus your mind as well as your muscles. The lower-body muscles are relatively powerful to begin with. As a result, you might be able to knock out a few sets of the bridge exercise without too much effort.
