Pablo Yrizar, Steve Gill and Mark Stevenson each scored three goals to help UC Irvine upset fourth-ranked Stanford, 10-5, in water polo Saturday at Stanford. Irvine (5-6), ranked fifth in the nation, avenged an 8-4 loss to Stanford two weeks ago in the UC Irvine water polo tournament. Stevenson's goal with 4 minutes 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter gave the Anteaters a 3-2 lead they never relinquished.

The Pomona-Pitzer football team, off to its best start since 1970, will try to remain undefeated when it plays host to Whittier in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Strehle Field in Claremont. The Sagehens (2-0) defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 31-20, last week. It was Pomona-Pitzer's first victory over the Stags since 1985 and its first conference victory since 1987. Whittier (0-2) and has been outscored this season, 80-29.
