Two Los Angeles men are being held on suspicion of hijacking a Cypress-based truck, kidnaping the driver and holding him for three days in a shed in Central California in a foiled effort to collect a "finder's fee" from the truck owner, police said Thursday. A transient hijacked an Orange County transit bus Sunday and led authorities on a 35-mile chase before he was arrested after ordering a beer at the Swallows Inn in San Juan Capistrano, authorities said. No one was injured in the pursuit. The man, Eugene Laporte, 34, forced the only other passenger and the driver off the bus before careening down three freeways with police and California Highway Patrol cars and a helicopter tracking him, officials said.

Three Huntington Park males identified by police as gang members have been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery in connection with a rash of Orange County crimes in January, including one carjacking. Aurelio Aguilar, 22, and Bardo Moses Nava, 18, are being held at the Huntington Beach City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail each, and the third suspect, a 17-year-old, was being held Tuesday at Orange County Juvenile Hall, police said. The juvenile's name was withheld because of his age.

Two armed men hijacked a delivery van and stole $455,000 in high-technology computer components, police said. "To tell you honestly, as the computer and high-tech industries continue to grow, you're going to probably see more of these crimes," Irvine Police Lt. Tom Hume said. The components were being delivered in the Westpark area Monday about 2:45 p.m. when two men armed with a revolver confronted the driver, got into the van and ordered him to drive, Hume said.

Police arrested a man suspected of hijacking five meat trucks at gunpoint from a supermarket warehouse since July, authorities said Thursday. Rodney Duane Jefferson, 29, of Los Angeles approached wholesale meat supply trucks waiting in line between 4 and 6 a.m. to unload at the Lucky's Market Warehouse in Buena Park, police said. Sometimes the trucks were parked in line with the drivers asleep in the cab camper. "He would hijack the truck at gunpoint," said Sgt.

Sheriff's deputies arrested an Oakland man early Friday after he allegedly kidnaped a woman as she was leaving a steakhouse and drove off in her car, authorities said. The 21-year-old woman managed to escape unharmed. The victim had just stepped into her car in a garage near a Black Angus restaurant in the 28100 block of Cabot Road about 1:30 a.m. when a man approached her, asking if she had change for a dollar, said Lt. Keith Brown of the Sheriff's Department.
