A Costa Mesa man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving after being follow home by a person who reportedly saw him leaving the scene of a minor accident, police said. Alfonso Cruz, 30, was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. Police said Cruz ran a red light at the intersection of Bay Street and the southbound 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, hit a car and left the scene without stopping. A witness followed Cruz to the 400 block of Hamilton Street and called police.

A 9-year-old Gardena boy who stole the family car and led police on a high-speed chase that ended in the death of another motorist has been charged with three felonies, including vehicular manslaughter. The boy, whose name was withheld because of his age, also faces arraignment in Inglewood Juvenile Court on counts of auto theft and evading arrest, as well as one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving, district attorney's spokesman Al Albergate said. A pedestrian was struck and critically injured in Fountain Valley, and the alleged hit-and-run driver later surrendered to police. Ronald Bright, 28, of Fountain Valley, was reported in critical condition Sunday at Fountain Valley Community Hospital. Sgt. Ron Manda said Robert Allen Yeater, 22, of Fountain Valley turned himself in to police about an hour after the accident at 8:43 p.m. Saturday on Warner Avenue. He was booked at Orange County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving.

An El Monte man has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a Sherman Oaks man 10 days ago, the California Highway Patrol said Monday. Rafael Duarte, 19, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Los Angeles Municipal Court on felony charges of manslaughter and hit-and-run driving, Sgt. Ron Roberts said. According to authorities, Duarte was driving a friend's car when he struck and killed Gregory Keyes, 34, at about 2:14 a.m. Jan. 31 as the victim walked north on the Harbor Freeway.

A driver suspected of being drunk crashed his car into a vehicle carrying the son and grandson of Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block, then drove away and struck another car, Los Angeles police said Thursday. Matthew Block, 8, was slightly injured in the 4 p.m. accident Wednesday at Winnetka Avenue and Parthenia Street. The boy's father, Barry Block, 39, was not injured. Police Sgt.

A 20-year-old woman was critically injured this morning when a suspect fleeing police in Huntington Beach rear-ended her car, causing the gasoline tank to explode. Krysten Olson of Huntington Beach was rushed to the UCI Medical Center burn unit with second- and third-degree burns over her body, police said. Matthew Shergalis, 28, of Newport Beach was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving and felony drunk driving. The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. when Newport Beach police tried to stop a driver who had run a red light on Pacific Coast Highway at Superior Avenue.

A Huntington Beach man was arrested after he fled the scene of a freeway accident that killed one person and injured seven others, California Highway Patrol officials said Saturday. Stephen Irving, 30, was jailed on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving and felony hit-and-run driving. Police said Irving was northbound on the San Diego Freeway near Culver Drive when he slammed into a Honda Civic about 6:50 p.m. Friday.
