Sheriff's deputies arrested two Port Hueneme men on suspicion of auto theft early Monday morning, after they allegedly crashed a stolen van into the side of a house and then ran away, authorities said. At 3:22 a.m., the Ventura County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of an auto theft in the 300 block of Capri Drive, near Sinaloa Golf Course.

A man on probation for illegally storing fireworks was arrested Thursday at his Santa Ana home, where probation officers found detonating cord and blasting caps, police said. Richard Helgason, 50, was booked on suspicion of possessing destructive devices, said Santa Ana police Officer Victor Standke. Probation officers, along with members of the Orange County bomb squad, went to Helgason's home on North Olive Lane about 6:45 a.m. to "conduct a probation search," Standke said.

A drug dealer arrested Wednesday in the Winnetka area led police to his home in Van Nuys where they seized about 70 pounds of cocaine with a street value in excess of $20 million, Los Angeles police said. Lt. E. A. Shiller of the Police Department's major violators section said detectives arrested Enrique Espinoza, 29, after a two-week undercover investigation during which he was closely watched at all times.

Police surprised three thieves who were holding a family at gunpoint in a home and caught the assailants as they tried to flee, authorities said Thursday. One shot was fired as police pursued An Thien Nguyen, 19, of Garden Grove, Chuan Vu Ha, 19, of Santa Ana and Thanh Cao Nguyen, 20, of Westminster. They were being held in County Jail on robbery charges, police said. No one was injured at the home in the 13600 block of Purdy Street, according to Garden Grove Police Sgt. Doug Morrill.

Federal authorities arrested a 21-year-old convicted felon Wednesday after they found 14 homemade pipe bombs in his bedroom. Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, acting on a tip when they made the arrest, said there was no direct evidence linking Eric Lord Jeffrey of Santa Ana with eight suspected white supremacists arrested July 15. ATF agent Jim Adamcik said, however, that Jeffrey has a swastika tattoo on his chest along with the letters "WP," for "white power."

A team of 20 police officers raided two homes over the weekend, arresting five people on a variety of charges, including possession of cocaine for sale and possession of stolen property, authorities said Sunday. Police seized nearly 200 firearms at a Porter Ranch home and arrested the owner, the culmination of a three-month investigation, police said. A mentally ill man was arrested in the death of his brother's neighbor in Santa Ana after an apparently unprovoked stabbing early Sunday. The victim, 34-year-old Ignacio Pillado Ortega, had no warning before the butcher knife-wielding attacker shattered the glass of the front door in the 2200 block of South Towner Street and charged into the living room, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Raul Luna. The assailant repeatedly stabbed Ortega, leaving the victim to die on the floor, Luna said.

Police arrested three men Thursday in a home-invasion robbery in which family members were tied up and covered with a blanket, authorities said. Held on suspicion of residential burglary and armed robbery were Trung Di Vu, 20, of Garden Grove; Thinh Dinh Truong, 22, of Westminster, and Phuong Quoc Bui, 21, of Midway City. Police found Chuyen Huyenh, 46, and two other unidentified family members unharmed, their hands and feet tied, Police Sgt. Gary Walker said. No injuries were reported.
