In an Oscars broadcast that was packed with tributes to movie musicals, "Les Miserables" won three Academy Awards on Sunday, including a win for Anne Hathaway for supporting actress. The film also won in the categories of sound mixing and make-up. Hathaway had been widely expected to win for her role as Fantine, having already picked up most major awards leading up to Sunday's ceremony. In her acceptance speech, the actress said that she hopes the "misfortunes of Fantine will only be found in stories and not in real life.

The lineup for the 35th annual Playboy Jazz Festival has been announced, and in addition to the weekend-long concert's signature mix of jazz, funk and R&B, the festival also revealed that comic and former late-night host George Lopez will take over for longtime host Bill Cosby this year. Cosby had served as master of ceremonies at the festival since 1979, and last year the comedy legend stepped down after becoming as much a part of the show's fabric as the Hollywood Bowl, parasols and picnic baskets.

During a recent interview with England's Daily Mail newspaper, Steven Spielberg revealed his one-time desire to direct a James Bond movie. "I went to [Bond producer] Cubby Broccoli and asked if I could do one and he said: 'No,'" Spielberg told the paper . "I've never asked again. " It worked out OK for Spielberg; he went on to direct the first film in his own globe-trotting franchise, "Raiders of the Lost Ark. " But what if Spielberg had directed a Bond film? What would that have looked like?

The latest case in point is "Cloud Atlas," which has been turned into a film with muddled, frustrating results. It's not difficult to see why the filmmaking Wachowski siblings joined forces with Tom Tykwer to jointly write and direct a version of David Mitchell's hugely ambitious novel.
