ICA Fluor Daniel has won a $50 million contract to build a truck assembly plant for Navistar International Corp. The plant, which will be located in Escobedo, in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, will have a production capacity of 65 units a day. It will also be designed to paint medium and heavy trucks. Under the contract, ICA Fluor Daniel will build three assembly buildings, a main office headquarters and some auxiliary facilities.

Fluor Corp.'s venture with Mexico's largest construction company won a $159-million contract to build a natural gas-fueled power plant in Mexico that will sell power to energy-strapped California, the company said Monday. The plant, ordered by San Diego-based Sempra Energy, will produce 600 megawatts, enough power for 450,000 average California homes. It will be located near the U.S. border in Mexicali, about 115 miles east of San Diego, Fluor spokeswoman Lori Serrato said.

Fluor Daniel, the construction services arm of Fluor Corp., said Monday it has won two large engineering and construction contracts for foreign projects. The company was awarded a $330-million contract for work on an Australian iron mine project and is part of an international consortium awarded a deal valued at about $1 billion to build, own and operate the world's largest nitrogen generating facility, in Campeche, Mexico.

Seeking to capitalize on an expected construction boom in Mexico and increased business stemming from a possible North American free trade accord, Fluor Corp. announced Tuesday that its core engineering unit has formed a subsidiary with Mexico's largest engineering and construction company. Under the agreement, Fluor Daniel acquired a 49% stake in ICA Industrial, a subsidiary of Empresas ICA Sociedad Controladora. The new venture, ICA Fluor Daniel, will be based in Mexico City.

Fluor Corp. said Thursday that its Fluor Daniel subsidiary and a Canadian partner have been awarded a $380-million contract to construct and install 3,291 miles of fiber optic cable in Mexico. Engineering giant Fluor said it has joined with Northern Telecom of Toronto in the job, which will create a fiber optic network connecting 33 Mexican cities, including Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
