WEST, Texas - Joann Williams is often teased about her fondness for ice cream. On Wednesday, it may have saved her life. Williams, 70, had just stepped away from the couch and walked into the kitchen. She was in the middle of unwrapping her second serving of banana chocolate fudge ice cream from her freezer when the West Fertilizer Co. exploded. At least 11 first responders have been confirmed dead. More than 160 people were injured.  Shattered glass rained down on the sofa Williams had been sitting on. If she'd still been there, she probably would have been severely injured or killed, she said.

What does Margaret Thatcher have to do with Mr. Whippy ice cream cones? Among the accomplishments of the former British prime minister, who died today at age 87, might have been her contribution to the development of soft-serve ice cream. It's a popular dig among some circles of the British left: Thatcher helped invent soft-serve ice cream -- adding air, lowering quality and raising profits -- Thatcherite politics in a cone. Though how directly she was involved in the making of soft-serve hasn't been detailed, Thatcher had an Oxford chemistry degree and was a research scientist at London food company J. Lyons & Co. in the '40s before deciding to pursue a legal career.

What's more boring than watching one of the better teams in the NBA blowing out one of the worst? Having to cover it on TV. That's just the situation the viewers and analysts on NBA-TV were in Tuesday night as the Indiana Pacers held a 42-29 halftime lead over the Orlando Magic. But just when the situation seemed about as bleak as it could get, a new hero emerged to save the day: Ice Cream Guy! So-called highlights from the first half of the game were broken up with clips of a bearded male fan, likely in his 20s, trying to enjoy a giant mint chocolate chip ice cream cone while watching the game.

A man was caught on camera during a Magic vs. Pacer game refusing to share his ice cream cone with his girlfriend. He's watching the game, enjoying his ice cream, when all of the sudden, his girlfriend tries to stick her spoon in it. He nonchalantly pulls away causing her to give him her best "oh-no-you-didn't face. " If you're his girlfriend, or any one of her friends, you're probably thinking this guy is a jerk. She just wanted a little ice cream. What's the big deal?
