Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena presents an evening with Ina Garten of Food Network's television show " Barefoot Contessa " on Thursday. The event will be held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre at 8 p.m. The cookbook author and TV show host once worked in the White House Office of Management and Budget before purchasing a specialty food store for sale in the Hamptons, the beginning of Barefoot Contessa. Garten will be interviewed by KCRW Good Food host Evan Kleiman. General admission is $42 (plus tax)

If only every cookbook author could choose their interviewer! When Ina Garten, star of TV's "The Barefoot Contessa," comes to Los Angeles promoting her new book "Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust," she's going to be hosted by actress Jennifer Garner in a public conversation at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. The event, sponsored by Vroman's Bookstore , isn't until Nov. 15, but because of the small size of the hall, there are a limited number of seats available.

" In the background, the injured can be heard moaning in pain amid yells of "Oh, no!" Sally Badger, her voice quivering, told the 911 operator: "My husband just called me and told me he was shot ? and I don't know where he is. Judging from some of the most popular titles of the recent holiday season, you might think the only reason people bought cookbooks was to talk about them. Let's see, we had "Under Pressure," Thomas Keller's book on sous-vide cooking, which is probably quite remarkable if you have the $2,500 to invest in the equipment necessary to cook from it.

It's a scenario that sounds like the romantic tragicomedy Woody Allen never wrote (but might have): Unhappily married, impoverished Dutch Jewish accountant Jack Polak meets young, wealthy beauty Ina Soep at a birthday party and is instantly smitten.
