Indian warplanes resumed their bombing campaign against heavily armed intruders in the disputed region of Kashmir on Sunday as troops moved up snow-covered mountains to push the guerrillas back over the military control line with Pakistan. India launched an air offensive May 26 to rout what it says was an armed incursion into Indian territory in Kashmir. Two-thirds of Kashmir is occupied by India; the rest, by Pakistan.

Heavily armed men attacked Indian soldiers in the disputed territory of Kashmir on Sunday, killing at least 10 and wounding 28 others, an army spokesman said. Two civilians and two attackers also were killed. Two gunmen dressed as peanut vendors approached the soldiers, hurled grenades and opened fire while other assailants fired from nearby hilltops, said the spokesman, Col. A.K. Singh. The soldiers returned fire.

Guerrillas fighting for an independent Kashmir struck at India's heart, killing two soldiers and a civilian guard at a historic fort in the capital, police said Saturday. Two gunmen entered the Red Fort--a landmark that houses soldiers and civilians and draws thousands of tourists every day--and attacked an army supply depot Friday night, killing a guard, police said. Two soldiers were gunned down as they came out of the depot.
