India reported progress in pushing back guerrillas entrenched in northern Kashmir after launching a new wave of air and ground attacks. Defense officials claimed steady progress hours after caretaker Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee pondered safe passage for the armed infiltrators inside the Kashmir cease-fire line. But Vajpayee ruled out halting the military action that began on May 26 until the rebels were expelled.
