Interfoods of America Inc. said Chief Executive Robert Berg and President Steve Wemple agreed to buy the shares of Interfoods they don't already own to take the franchisee of Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits restaurants private. Interfoods shareholders will receive notes valued at $1.45 a share, the Miami-based company said. Shares of Interfoods rose 10 cents, or 13%, to 90 cents in over-the-counter trading.

Encino-based Interfoods Consolidated Inc. on Tuesday decided to move to the Internet with the acquisition of Sitestar Corp., an Internet services company, and said it may leave behind its specialty Mexican food line and the food manufacturing business. "The food industry is a stable, mature, mundane industry, and we were doing well," said Eric Manlunas, chairman, president and chief executive of Interfoods.

Sitestar Corp., a small Encino-based Internet investment company that gobbled up four companies in a two-month period last year, has set its sights on a much larger target, MotherNature.com, one of the most popular health and family Web sites. Sitestar's president, Clinton J. Sallee, said the company plans to offer 75 cents per share for Concord, Mass.-based MotherNature.com, which sells dietary supplements and offers advice on healthy living.
