Duke's Jabari Parker has an important decision to make by Tuesday. The freshman forward is debating whether or not to declare for the 2014 NBA draft. Parker and Creighton forward Doug McDermott, who are both 6 foot 8, joined Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson on KSPN-AM (710) in Los Angeles for an interview on Friday. "It's a very tough decision, especially leaving behind my coach and all the people who are behind the program that really helped me out this year," said Parker.

The second round of the NCAA tournament concluded on Friday with a number of top NBA draft prospects ousted far earlier than expected. Duke's Jabari Parker could be the No. 1 pick in June NBA's draft (or at least top three) but the Mercer Bears, a 14th seed, stunned the Blue Devils, seeded No. 3, 78-71. Parker finished with 14 points and seven rebounds but shot just four for 14 from the field with four turnovers. How the quick exit will affect the freshman's pro prospects is unclear.

NEW YORK - UCLA is 11 games into its basketball season, and this is what's known for sure: Bruins guard Kyle Anderson can spot a really good basketball player when he sees one. Anderson said in the days leading up to Thursday night's game against Duke that he had seen Blue Devils star Jabari Parker play as he rose through the youth ranks on his way to becoming the top freshman in the nation. "He's always been the best player on the floor," Anderson recalled. Still is. GAME SUMMARY: Duke 80, UCLA 63 Parker scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and, for good measure, chipped in five assists as eighth-ranked Duke ran away from UCLA in the second half for an 80-63 victory before a nationally televised audience and a crowd of 15,410 at Madison Square Garden.

The year is 2017. Somewhere high above an NBA practice court, a general manager stares out a large picture window at his struggling team and sighs. "I still can't believe it," he tells a front-office underling. "Remember that year we tanked and thought it would change everything? Now look at us. " A belief is spreading in and around the league that the 2014 draft, once more widely hyped than the latest iPhone, may not be all that. Teams positioning themselves for as many pingpong balls as possible - overtly or otherwise - may be bouncing toward disappointment.

Kyle Anderson is headed home. Madison Square Garden, where the UCLA basketball team plays a nationally televised game Thursday night against eighth-ranked Duke, is less than a half-an-hour drive from his hometown of Fairview, N.J., and you know what that means. Yes, his cellphone has been buzzing with ticket requests from family and friends. He gets only four to distribute, though. "I don't know who to choose, so it's tough," he said before practice at Pauley Pavilion on Monday, "but I'm sure they'll make it work.

UCLA has been tested twice this young college basketball season, and the Bruins have failed both tests. Eighth-ranked Duke pulled away in the second half Thursday night, defeating UCLA, 80-63, at Madison Square Garden in a nationally televised game. UCLA trailed by 10 points early in the game, but led by as many as six points in the first half after getting a spark off the bench from Bryce Alford and Zach LaVine. The score was tied, 37-37, at the half, but a UCLA zone that bothered the Blue Devils in the first half didn't after that.

UCLA and Duke are tied, 37-37, at halftime of their basketball game Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Bruins shot poorly early, making two of their first 11 field-goal tries, but the freshman tandem of Bryce Alford and Zach LaVine rallied UCLA from 10 points back against the eighth-ranked Blue Devils. Alford and LaVine combined for 11 points in a span of less than 10 minutes and the Bruins turned what had been a seven-point deficit when they entered the game into a six-point lead.
