Re "A treasure of maps," Oct. 19 Kudos to real estate agent Matthew Greenberg for going out of his way to preserve the treasure of maps he discovered in a Mount Washington home slated for demolition. He could have taken the easy way of simply tossing them into a trash bin, but fans of maps, both now and in the future, will be thanking him. James McGee Sun City, Calif. Wade Boggs' attorney laughed at an offer by Margo Adams to drop her breach-of-contract lawsuit against the Boston Red Sox third baseman for at least $500,000. "How do you print, 'Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,' in the paper?" responded Boggs' lawyer, Jennifer King of Tustin. "I haven't received the offer, but if as you say it is over $500,000, that is very funny. It won't be accepted by Mr. Boggs." Adams' attorney, James McGee, made the settlement offer Wednesday, one day after he said he planned to return to court and ask for "several million dollars" in damages against Boggs.

A commissioner ruled Friday that a $6-million lawsuit filed by the former girlfriend of Boston Red Sox star Wade Boggs does not meet legal requirements. However, Eleanor Palk, Orange County Superior Court commissioner, said Margo Adams, 32, of Costa Mesa can redraft and refile her suit, which alleges that Boggs breached an oral contract to pay her expenses for joining him on Red Sox trips for four years. Adams' lawyer, James McGee, said the suit will be refiled.

A Superior Court jury on Monday awarded $575,000 in damages to a man who sued several fellow members of a religious organization, claiming that they falsely accused him of mishandling the group's funds. Anaheim resident Adnan Khatib, 56, a former board member of the Islamic Society of Orange County, claimed in his lawsuit that three members of the organization--Khizar Malik, Iqbal Mahmood and Maqbool Chaudhry--wrote and distributed a letter in February, 1987, that defamed his character.

A state appellate court has thrown out a key claim in Margo Adams' palimony lawsuit against Boston Red Sox star Wade Boggs, ruling that the Adams does not deserve payment for emotional distress. The split decision by the 4th District Court of Appeal leaves intact only Margo Adams' breach of contract allegations, which even if proved could justify only a small fraction of the $6 million in damages she first claimed against Boggs.
