A Newport Beach developer was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on a charge of killing a former employee who was acquitted last year of murdering the suspect's wife. Municipal Judge Douglas A. Fettel scheduled an April 10 arraignment for James N. Hood, 48, in San Bernardino County Superior Court. Hood is accused in the March 2 shooting death of Bruce E. Beauchamp, 31, a maintenance supervisor.

James Newman Hood, a Newport Beach developer accused of fatally shooting a man who had been acquitted of killing Hood's wife, was arraigned Thursday in San Bernardino County Municipal Court. Hood, 48, is charged with murdering Bruce Beauchamp, 32, of Fontana and, if found guilty, could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, said San Bernardino County Deputy Dist. Atty. Clark Hansen. He is being held without bail at the San Bernardino County West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

A Newport Beach developer, who shot and killed the man who had been acquitted of murdering his wife, said Wednesday in jail that he acted in self-defense. Looking disheveled in a bright orange jumpsuit, James Newman Hood, 48, spoke only briefly from the San Bernardino County West Valley Detention Center where he was being held without bail. He is due for arraignment today in the shooting of Bruce Beauchamp, 32, of Fontana on Monday.
